Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 2

During the period, we made a major investment in a new converged mobile-friendly web site bringing together all our platforms and delivering content more smoothly. Nvpr was also in the first wave of stations to participate in npr one and provide streams to i-tunes.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

As of september 30, 2015 and 2014, the organization had one permanent endowment and two term endowments. The permanent endowment (endowment #2) has a corpus of $850,310 with the earnings on the investment to be used for general operations. Both term endowments were established per agreements with the donald w. Reynolds foundation. The first of these (endowment #1) has a corpus of $906,452. The corpus and earnings on the investment are restricted for providing maintenance and upkeep of the building donated by the donald w. Reynolds foundation. During the year ended september 30, 2013, the donald w. Reynolds foundation reclassified endowment #1 from a permanent endowment to a term endowment which allows the organization to spend up to 5% of the corpus per year. Consequently, the original corpus was reclassified from permanently restricted to temporarily restricted funds. The second term endowment (restricted fund for programs) was received during the year ended september 30, 2009, with an original corpus of $906,452. The earnings on the investment and 5% of the corpus may be spent on programs and operations each year. The endowments include only donor-restricted endowment funds and earnings. Net assets associated with endowment funds are classified and reported based on the existence or absence of donor-imposed restrictions.

PART X, LINE 2:

In accordance with the accounting standards, management periodically reviews and evaluates the status of uncertain tax positions and makes estimates of amounts, including interest and penalties, ultimately due or owed. No amounts have been identified, or recorded as uncertain tax positions.

PART XI, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Change in temporarily restricted net assets 215,853.

PART XI, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Commissions on auto sales 68,417.

PART XII, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Commissions on auto sales 68,417.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0NVPR IS THE PUBLISHER OF THE CITY REGIONAL MAGAZINE, DESERT COMPANION, WITH AN AUDITED MONTHLY READERSHIP IN EXCESS OF 125,000. ON AIR, ONLINE AND PRINT ACTIVITIES ARE UNDUPLICATED IN OUR REGION IN THEIR PUBLIC SERVICE FOCUS. NVPR IS INVESTING IN MEETING OUR AUDIENCES "WHERE THEY ARE" AS MEDIA HABITS SHIFT TO DIGITAL DELIVERY, AND AS IMPORTANT, CREATING CONTENT THAT IS RELEVANT TO A MORE DIVERSE POPULATION. NVPR'S MEDIA OUTPUT DEMONSTRATES A "BETTER THAN INDUSTRY" BENCHMARK IN REACHING NON-WHITE AUDIENCES (APPROXIMATELY 27% OF OUR AUDIENCE SELF-REPORT AS NON-WHITE IN COMMUNITIES WHERE 45% OF THE COMMUNITY IDENTIFY AS NON-WHITE), A GOAL WE SEEK TO MAINTAIN AND EXCEED TO BETTER REFLECT THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0NVPR'S PUBLIC MEDIA SERVICES PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY LIFE OF OUR REGION. THROUGH CORPORATE SPONSORSHIPS WE ELEVATE AWARENESS OF THE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF SOME OF THE NATION'S MOST WELL-KNOWN HOSPITALITY BRANDS INCLUDING CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT AND CIRQUE DU SOLEIL. IN TURN, THIS POTENTIATES THE PHILANTHROPY OF INDIVIDUALS AND OTHER BUSINESS IN THE REGION. IN SUPPORTING NVPR, COMPANIES DRIVE AWARENESS OF OTHER NOT FOR PROFIT ENTITIES AND THEIR NEEDS.NVPR DONATES MORE THAN $1M OF AIRTIME DIRECTLY TO CIVIC, SOCIAL SERVICE AND CULTURAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT ENTITIES EACH YEAR. NVPR WEBSITES ARE A "GO TO" SOURCE FOR INFORMATION ON COMMUNITY EVENTS, A SERVICE PROVIDED WITHOUT CHARGE TO OTHER NON-PROFITS. ON AIR (CON'T ON SCH O) UNDERWRITING AND PRINT ADVERTISING WITH NVPR IS PROVEN IN ACTIVATING AUDIENCES TO ATTEND CULTURAL EVENTS AND BE INVOLVED IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. OUR MEDIA SERVICES ARE ALSO UNDUPLICATED IN THEIR ABILITY TO CONNECT LOCAL COMPANIES WITH THEIR CONSUMERS GIVEN THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF OUR AUDIENCE. AS MARKETING PARTNERS, WE ARE EMBEDDED IN THE ECONOMIC SUCCESS OF LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED COMPANIES.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/ExpenseAmt0218210
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0NVPR HOSTS TWO "DRIVE THRU" RECYCLING DAYS ANNUALLY, EACH ATTRACTING MORE THAN 500 CARS WITH RECYCLABLES AND ITEMS TO BE DONATED TO GOODWILL AND THE BLIND CENTER OF NEVADA. SHREDDING SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AND THE VITAL SERVICE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG DISPOSAL. THESE COMMUNITY EVENTS GENERATE SIGNIFICANT REVENUE FOR PARTNER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND DIVERT MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF RECYCLABLES FROM LOCAL LANDFILLS. WE BRING THE PROMOTION OF ON AIR AND ONLINE RESOURCES AND OUR PARTNERS REPORT THESE EVENTS TO BE SOME OF THEIR HIGHEST YIELDING EVENTS EACH YEAR.OCTOBER FALL 2014 WE EXPERIMENTED WITH AN OPTION FOR MEMBERS TO SELECT A "SOCIAL GOOD" PREMIUM WITH THEIR PLEDGE. THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THREE SQUARE FOOD BANK YIELDED 30,000 MEALS DONATED, UNDERWRITTEN BY A LOCAL PHILANTHROPIST WAS A BIG SUCCESS. IT DEMONSTRATED HOW NVPR CAN MOVE THE NEEDLE WITH OTHER NON-PROFITS, AND IS NOW A PLANNED ELEMENT OF THE FALL CAMPAIGN SEASON.
