“Kansas city's medicine cabinet, a short-term emergency medical assistance program, created by the foundation in july of 2005, continued to meet the needs of kansas city's low income, uninsured and under-insured population. From january 1, 2015 through december 31, 2015, 3,715 people were assisted with 4,088 services. Since the program began in 2005 through the end of 2015, more than 26,400 services have been provided. Currently there are 13 social service agencies and 24 intake sites throughout the metropolitan kansas city area. In addition, the program continues to work with the local domestic violence shelters and cancer action. The medicine cabinet provides emergency short-term assistance in five areas: dental emergencies, diabetic supplies, durable medical equipment (including hearing aids), vision care (eye glasses and exams) and prescriptions. A total of 82 scholarships were awarded to nursing students plus one respiratory therapy scholarship. The foundation provided funding to community agencies, organizations and schools, in the areas of arthritis, asthma, cpr training, mental health first aid training and parent's as teachers. Through the lena green trust, new medical equipment was purchased for five non-profit health clinics in the metropolitan area. The foundation provided speech and hearing equipment for students at a neighborhood charter school as well as hearing testing equipment to a local schools district. The foundation completed ten years of support of an in-school wellness center at a neighborhood charter school. The orear institute, an annual conference for medical professionals, funded through the foundation, was held with 123 attendees. Educational grants were provided for family practice residents and healthcare providers to enhance their clinical skills. Grants were given to support family practice resident's international medical studies. Educational grants were provided to a post-graduate pastoral care program to assist in the development of spiritual and clinical skills of those providing assistance to patients and their families.”
“The foundation is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The foundation's policy is to provide liabilities for uncertain income tax provisions when a liability is probable and estimable. The foundation has no uncertain income tax positions for the years ended december 31, 2015 and 2014. The foundation is no longer subject to audits by the irs for years prior to 2012. Management is not aware of any violation of its tax status as an organization exempt from income taxes.”

THESE EFFORTS ARE CONDUCTED PRIMARILY BY THE STAFF AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE FOUNDATION ANNUALLY CONDUCTS DIRECT MAIL SOLICITATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS, BUSINESSES AND FOUNDATIONS FOR ITS NURSING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS AND KANSAS CITY'S MEDICINE CABINET. THE FOUNDATION'S ANNUAL COINS FOR THE CABINET FUNDRAISER SOLICITS DONATIONS FROM AREA SCHOOLS AND BUSINESSES. KANSAS CITY'S MEDICINE CABINET, THE FOUNDATION'S PREMIER PROGRAM, ASSISTS PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE SIX COUNTY KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN AREA. IN 2015 THE MEDICINE CABINET PROVIDED OVER 4,000 SERVICES TO MORE THAN 3,700 PEOPLE. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2005, THE PROGRAM HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN 26,400 SERVICES AT A COST OF NEARLY $5 MILLION. THE FOUNDATION HAS AN ANNUAL PUBLIC FUNDRAISING EVENT (CONCERT) TO SUPPORT THE MEDICINE CABINET. THE FOUNDATION NORMALLY RECEIVES ITS SUPPORT FROM A REPRESENTATIVE NUMBER OF PERSONS AND ORGANIZATIONS IN THE KANSAS CITY AREA. THE FOUNDATION INTENDS TO CONTINUE SOLICITING CONTRIBUTIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS, BUSINESSES AND FOUNDATIONS IN THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, METROPOLITAN AREA. REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNING BODY: THE FOUNDATION'S GOVERNING BODY ARE REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING AREA HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS AND OTHER PERSONS INTERESTED IN THE OPERATION OF THE FOUNDATION. AVAILABILITY OF PUBLIC FACILITIES OR SERVICES: KANSAS CITY'S MEDICINE CABINET CONTRACTS WITH THIRTEEN SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES THAT HAVE TWENTY-FOUR CLIENT IN-TAKE SITES STRATEGICALLY LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE KANSAS CITY METROPOLITAN AREA, WHERE QUALIFIED MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY MAY APPLY FOR ONE OR MORE OF THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE MEDICINE CABINET. THE FOUNDATION BELIEVES THAT IT HAS MET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES TEST OF TREASURY REG. 1.170A-9(E)(3) AND IT SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE CLASSIFIED AS A PUBLICLY SUPPORTED ORGANIZATION WITHIN THE MEANING OF CODE SEC. 170(B)(1)(A)(VI). |
