Major Activities

Activity 2

Housing and food services: to prevent homelessness and to shelter, assist and counsel people who have lost their homes and to work to ensure nourishing food for people who might otherwise go hungry or suffer malnutrition. In 2011, we provided 75,000 nights of shelter, helped over 10,000 individuals to achieve housing stability, distributed over 7 million pounds of food to shelters, grew and donated over 47,000 pounds of food, and provided services and resources to over 15,000 people.

Activity 3

Volunteer and national service programs: to provide senior volunteers with a wide range of community opportunities, including feeding hungry people, making communities safer, teaching children, and placing year old stipended volunteers in schools and community agencies, including violence prevention, kids reading skills, and strengthening low income communities. In 2011, provided over 504,000 national service member hours and mobilized over 5,500 people to participate in community revitalization and anti-poverty initiatives.
