Governance Explanations

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

Explanation: the organization distributed the draft of form 990 to the board members for their review and approval. Board members respond back with any questions or comments that are addressed. After all comments are cleared the form 990 is electronically filed with the irs.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

Explanation: all board members sign an acceptance document agreeing to abide by the conflict of interest policy. The policy statement resides on the organizational protected website (sharepoint) for access at any time. Board members, officers, key employees and directors are free to disclose any perceived conflicts of interest at any time by contacting the president, chairman of the board or chair-elect. Immediate action will then be taken. When a board member indicates a potential conflict, that individual is immediately removed from any and all discussions, deliberation and/or decisions on the particular issue.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

Explanation: the president's compensation is reviewed annually by a compensation committee made up of board members. Performance is considered along with the availability of finances to support any potential increase. Independent salary surveys are consulted that include organizations specific to the non-profit community in the greater new york metropolitan area.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15B

Other key employees are reviewed annually by the president utilizing a similar process to the above.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 19

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0TRAINING & EDUCATION - THE FLEXO IN EDUCATION PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1993 WITH THE PILOT HIGH SCHOOL IN CHARLOTTE, NC. ORIGINALLY CALLED THE FLEXO IN HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM (FIHS), THE PROGRAM HAS GROWN TO INCLUDE POST-SECONDARY SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS HIGH SCHOOLS. THE PROGRAM WAS THE VISION OF RON AND KATHERINE HARPER, HARPER CORPORATION OF AMERICA, TO FORM A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN EDUCATION AND THE FLEXOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY TO FILL THE NEED FOR TRAINED WORKERS. THE PROGRAM BRINGS TOGETHER THE SUPPORT OF THE INDUSTRY, THE FOUNDATION OF FTA AND SCHOOLS. IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE, SCHOOLS MUST HAVE AN EXISTING PRINTING PROGRAM AND A DESIRE TO EXPAND THEIR CURRICULUM TO INCLUDE FLEXOGRAPHY. THE BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND THE INDUSTRY ARE NUMEROUS. STUDENTS LEARN MARKETABLE SKILLS SO THE MAY ENTER THE WORKFORCE UPON GRADUATING FROM SCHOOL, WHILE THE INDUSTRY BENEFITS THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF TRAINED AND SKILLED INDIVIDUALS WITH A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF FLEXO TECHNOLOGY. CURRENTLY THERE ARE 21 HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM MEMBERS AND 15 POST-SECONDARY SCHOOL PROGRAM MEMBERS.
