Once the draft of the annual 990 is prepared by a contracted cpa in collaboration with the firefighters burn institute accounting staff and executive director, it is reviewed by the president and secretary/treasurer of the board of trustees.

The firefighters burn institute regularly monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy. Any member of the board, staff member,committee member, volunteer or donor can request to have the issue of a conflict of interest addressed by notifying the firefighters burn institute executive director or the president of the board of trustees. Board members are made aware of their responsibility to disclose any proposed activities which present or may be a conflict of interest to the president or executive director and have them approved in advance by the board of trustees. If deemed necessary, outside professionals, including attorneys are contracted to review any perceived conflicts. A statement is signed by each board of trustee member at the beginning of their service to ffbi, agreeing to the terms of the conflict of interest policy.

Burn recovery programs: firefighters kids camp - a special week where children who have suffered serious burn injuries can share an enriching experience in a safe and nurturing environment. The camp is held for one week in the summer and provides young burn survivors with a fun and safe outdoor experience that encourages healing, personal growth and character development. Little heroes family burn camp - a unique three-day recovery program designed to help preschool burn survivors ages 1-6, and their caregivers/families understand and cope with the physical and emotional challenges associated with burn recovery. Team bright - designed to encourage community engagement after a burn injury. Together, shriners children's - northern california and ffbi, plan monthly outings to strengthen skills, boost self-esteem, and inspire normalization. Firefighter volunteers and patients from shriners children's - northern california meet up on coordinated recreational outings during which the firefighters can support goal attainment, help boost survivor skills, and make recovery fun. Burn survivor support group - twice-monthly meetings for burn survivors, family and significant others to come together to support one another in their recovery, discuss issues and raise questions related to their burn injury. Adult burn survivor recovery retreat is a unique opportunity for adults who have been affected by the emotional and physical pain of a serious burn injury to acquire new coping skills and experience personal growth while meeting others who have gone through a similar experience. Liaison response team (lrt) - firefighters assisting burn-injured firefighters. A team of firefighters whose mission is to provide assistance to firefighters, their families and their department in the aftermath of a burn injury. L.r.t. Members are dedicated to the well-being and recovery of their fellow firefighter and understand the importance of help and emotional support during critical times. Family burn relief - provides assistance with lodging, food and transportation costs as well as mental health support to families and individuals who have recently suffered the trauma of a burn injury.

Education - american burn association scholarships - ffbi is committed to funding education for medical burn team professionals and supporting burn treatment and rehabilitation research. To help fulfill this portion of our mission ffbi provides a limited number of educational scholarships for shriners children's - northern california and uc davis medical center staff to attend the annual american burn association conference. Cliff haskell perpetual scholarships - in honor of our founder, an educational scholarship program for burn survivors who are pre-enrolled and accepted for full-time attendance to a college, university, trade school, or technical school. World burn congress scholarships - world burn congress (wbc) is the world's largest gathering of the burn community, connecting attendees with resources, support, and each other. Wbc offers a supportive environment for transformational healing and gives those affected by burn injuries the tools to thrive again. The ffbi is honored to provide scholarships to burn survivors in need who would not otherwise be able to experience this life changing conference.

Burn prevention - the youth firesetter program (yfp) is an intervention program for youth who exhibit a tendency to misuse fire. This program is comprised of fire, probation, burn and healthcare professionals who provide a coordinated effort in helping youth firesetters and their families receive the assistance they need through assessments, psychological referrals, and education. This program teaches families safe and responsible behaviors related to fire use as well as the financial, emotional, and social consequences of firesetting. Safety fairs - are hosted and coordinated to bring the message of burn prevention and fire safety to large numbers of people. Burn research - clinical and laboratory research grants are awarded to researchers and burn care professionals in an effort to gain new knowledge and insight to facilitate advancements in burn care and improve treatment of burn injuries.

LITTLE HEROES FAMILY BURN CAMP - A UNIQUE THREE-DAY RECOVERY PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP PRESCHOOL BURN SURVIVORS AGES 1-6, AND THEIR CAREGIVERS/FAMILIES UNDERSTAND AND COPE WITH THE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES ASSOCIATED WITH BURN RECOVERY. TEAM BRIGHT - DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AFTER A BURN INJURY. TOGETHER, SHRINERS CHILDREN'S - NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND FFBI, PLAN MONTHLY OUTINGS TO STRENGTHEN SKILLS, BOOST SELF-ESTEEM, AND INSPIRE NORMALIZATION. FIREFIGHTER VOLUNTEERS AND PATIENTS FROM SHRINERS CHILDREN'S - NORTHERN CALIFORNIA MEET UP ON COORDINATED RECREATIONAL OUTINGS DURING WHICH THE FIREFIGHTERS CAN SUPPORT GOAL ATTAINMENT, HELP BOOST SURVIVOR SKILLS, AND MAKE RECOVERY FUN. BURN SURVIVOR SUPPORT GROUP - TWICE-MONTHLY MEETINGS FOR BURN SURVIVORS, FAMILY AND SIGNIFICANT OTHERS TO COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER IN THEIR RECOVERY, DISCUSS ISSUES AND RAISE QUESTIONS RELATED TO THEIR BURN INJURY. ADULT BURN SURVIVOR RECOVERY RETREAT IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR ADULTS WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL PAIN OF A SERIOUS BURN INJURY TO ACQUIRE NEW COPING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE PERSONAL GROWTH WHILE MEETING OTHERS WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. LIAISON RESPONSE TEAM (LRT) - FIREFIGHTERS ASSISTING BURN-INJURED FIREFIGHTERS. A TEAM OF FIREFIGHTERS WHOSE MISSION IS TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS, THEIR FAMILIES AND THEIR DEPARTMENT IN THE AFTERMATH OF A BURN INJURY. L.R.T. MEMBERS ARE DEDICATED TO THE WELL-BEING AND RECOVERY OF THEIR FELLOW FIREFIGHTER AND UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HELP AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DURING CRITICAL TIMES. WORLD BURN CONGRESS SCHOLARSHIPS - WORLD BURN CONGRESS (WBC) IS THE WORLD'S LARGEST GATHERING OF THE BURN COMMUNITY, CONNECTING ATTENDEES WITH RESOURCES, SUPPORT, AND EACH OTHER. WBC OFFERS A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR TRANSFORMATIONAL HEALING AND GIVES THOSE AFFECTED BY BURN INJURIES THE TOOLS TO THRIVE AGAIN. THIS PROGRAM IS COMPRISED OF FIRE, PROBATION, BURN AND HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS WHO PROVIDE A COORDINATED EFFORT IN HELPING YOUTH FIRESETTERS AND THEIR FAMILIES RECEIVE THE ASSISTANCE THEY NEED THROUGH ASSESSMENTS, PSYCHOLOGICAL REFERRALS, AND EDUCATION. THIS PROGRAM TEACHES FAMILIES SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIORS RELATED TO FIRE USE AS WELL AS THE FINANCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SOCIAL CONSEQUENCES OF FIRESETTING. SAFETY FAIRS - ARE HOSTED AND COORDINATED TO BRING THE MESSAGE OF BURN PREVENTION AND FIRE SAFETY TO LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE. BURN RESEARCH - CLINICAL AND LABORATORY RESEARCH GRANTS ARE AWARDED TO RESEARCHERS AND BURN CARE PROFESSIONALS IN AN EFFORT TO GAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT TO FACILITATE ADVANCEMENTS IN BURN CARE AND IMPROVE TREATMENT OF BURN INJURIES.
