Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The rutherford house residential facilities have been organized as an alternative to traditional, sometimes distant youth correctional institutions. Juveniles who come to the attention of local courts are eligible for intake consideration into either our day program or for residential placement. It is our belief that youth in trouble can benefit from highly structured treatment that works to help individuals learn how to be successful in a world outside of state custody.

The rutherford house residential facilities have been organized as an alternative to traditional, sometimes distant youth correctional institutions. Juveniles who come to the attention of local courts are eligible for intake consideration. It is our belief that youth in trouble can benefit from treatment in a program that provides for removal from the home on a short term basis. Our goal is to provide the best care and treatment for the youth placed into our programs. For this to be accomplished, our staff must by truly committed to excellence and to the belief that positive change is possible. Placement is open to children regardless of political beliefs, race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, handicap/disability or any other non merit factor whose needs cannot be met through traditional community resources. Facilities are "open and children are never locked into a facility.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

As a nonprofit, privately supported organization, rutherford house is exempt from income taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, but must file an annual return with the internal revenue service that contains information on its financial operations. Rutherford house is required to review various tax positions it has taken with respect to its exempt status and determine whether in fact it continues to qualify as a tax-exempt entity. It must also consider whether it has nexus in jurisdictions in which it has income and whether a tax return is required in those jurisdictions. In addition, as a tax-exempt entity, it must assess whether it has any tax positions associated with unrelated business income subject to income tax. Rutherford house does not expect these tax positions to change significantly over the next twelve months. Any penalties related to late filing or other requirements would be recognized as penalties expense in the accounting records. Rutherford house is required to file u s federal form 990 for informational purposes. The federal income tax returns for the prior three years remain subject to examination by the internal revenue service.

IRS990/MissionDesc0THE RUTHERFORD HOUSE RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES HAVE BEEN ORGANIZED AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL, SOMETIMES DISTANT YOUTH CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
