“The foundation's 990 return has a comprehensive review process that is followed before it is presented to the governing body of the foundation. The review process includes a layered review by the tax department of group health, inc. (ghi), the management team of the foundation, ghi's internal legal department and the foundation's outside independent accountants. Each one of those areas has an opportunity to review, ask questions and make comments back to the tax department of ghi before the form 990 is completed and presented to the governing body of the foundation. Under the policy, covered persons annually are provided with a copy of the policy and asked to complete a questionnaire identifying any potential conflicts of interests. The general counsel of healthpartners reviews the questionnaire responses and develops a report detailing any potentially material conflicts for the president and chair of the board. A verbal summary is also given to the full board or appropriate committee ending with a reminder to covered persons of the policy's mandate that each person is obligated to disclose any new potential conflicts as they may arise throughout the year. Board agendas and executive decisions are monitored in relation to this policy. If a disclosed conflict of interest impacts an agenda item or decision, the covered person would be excluded from voting and may be excluded from receiving information and/or participating in deliberations, depending on the circumstances.”

The foundation's mission is to improve the health and well-being of our patients, families, and community through partnerships and philanthropy. The foundation partners with pnhs and throughout the communities served by pnhs. Within pnhs, the foundation supports numerous programs and services that further health care research and innovation and enhance the patient and family experience. In the community, the foundation achieves its mission by bringing together divergent groups to identify compelling community health needs and implement meaningful collaborative programs and services in response to those needs. In 2024, the foundation distributed more than $20,462,000to support unique programs both within pnhs and at nonprofit community organizations. Among the many programs the foundation was able to support within pnhs were: funded expansion and growth for melrose center at $10,954,060 to remodel the st. Louis park location with a goal of single rooms, larger group rooms, dining rooms and family space to accommodate our growing adolescent population. Provided additional $169,505 in funding to melrose center for programming that included outreach and education, nature based therapy, conference attendance for diabetes and eating disorders. Updating of the melrose conference center audiovisual system. Granted additional funds for the melrose program in the amount of $125,539 to: partner with the minnesota arboretum to: provide nature-based therapy groups for patients on our residential unit. Partner with recovery record to use a melrose app that connects the clinical care team with patients. Support the melrose heals podcast that continually reaches and impacts patients and families. Facilitate melrose outreach to encourage and support hundreds who may be experiencing an eating disorder or caring for a loved one who is struggling. Innovation and research grants totaled $3,509,416 to support a variety of innovative and research related projects that include: purchase of two surgical robots. Acquisition of a laerdal simman 3g-plus dark tone skin simulation manikin for the clinical simulation center. “Provided $633,276 to support park nicollet struthers parkinson's center facility, patients and caregivers. Items supported included: a variety of in-person and virtual activities, online care network curriculum materials, music therapy and the progress & possibilities educational online seminar series. Support includes enhancements to patient care, education, equipment, outreach, and patient special needs not covered by insurance such as the club create day program, which provides caregiver support, exercise and wellness programming, music therapy, arts and horticulture and caregivers luncheon. Provided $49,200 in emergency grants for the caring for colleagues program that supports team members in crisis situations. Provided grants for employee-led patient experience projects for $25,505. The projects to improve patient and family experience across pnhs included: translation for patient education pieces translated to non-english languages; purchase of gratitude journals for rehab patients when they attend stress reduction and emotional aspects of heart disease education sessions; labor room refresh to place alarm clock/radios/noise makers in each room of labor and delivery and acquisition of yoga mats/prayer mats in every room. Provide $92,000 for membership in mmcorc that gives frauenshuh cancer center access to hundreds of cancer research studies they would not otherwise have access. Provided grant in the amount of $49,000 for daybridge, a new mental health partial hospitalization program. This grant will help augment their core team members and enhance their program with the addition of art and music therapy so patients can benefit from a holistic approach to the treatment of their mental health needs. The methodist hospital emergency center/icu was granted $35,000 to replace outdated equipment, to purchase a lucas device for the icu and for code blue response housewide at methodist hospital. In the wider community, the foundation: provided $176,000 in community outreach for no-fee breast cancer screening via mammography, diagnostic services, and education at 73 events to 1,351 women in need across our community with the mobile mammo a-go-go community outreach program. Sixty interpreters helped translate for spanish, hmong, laotian, somali, cambodian, oromo and korean patients. Provided funding of over $1,382,977 for no-charge school-based medical care, prescription support, sliding fee dental care, early learner mental health services, early childhood screenings within the st. Louis park community, school coordination and insurance navigation services to 8,674 children and youth at four school-based health resource center locations: brooklyn center high school, burnsville diamondhead clinic, richfield high school, and st. Louis park central clinic. Nearly 9,000 health needs were addressed, and 831 immunizations were provided. Provided over $1,456,748 in funding to provide a no-fee school-based grief counseling program in 16 school districts, 124 school locations, for children experiencing the death of a family member or friend through the growing through grief program. This included funding of $25,600 to the minneapolis public schools cares curriculum. Responded to 27 death-related school crisis events. Services supported more than 928 students weekly and 13,144 students, school staff and family members for a total of over 12,303 hours of student and parent support. Provided funding of $361,456 for now! No obstacles to well-being school-based tele-mental health services and interpreter services. The now program provided 607 hours of no-cost school-based tele-mental health sessions for 50 youth in three high-need school districts: burnsville, richfield, and st. Louis park. In 2024, the foundation, in collaboration with pnhs and healthpartners, continued to implement activities identified in the methodist hospital community health needs assessment implementation plan (chna).
