Access to resources - par assists families in navigating the service system at no charge and provides families with information they need to help them meet the challenges of supporting their family members with autism or an intellectual disability throughout their adult lives.par's educational webinars are offered at no charge to our membership several times throughout the year in order to facilitate the provision of information, training, and access to resources in relation to autism and intellectual disabilities.par provides free online access to information about services, funding and eligibility for consumers (people with autism or intellectual disabilities) and their families through the par services network (psn) and through the organization's website www.par.net. Psn is the premier database of services and supports available to persons with intellectual disabilites and autism in pennsylvania. This information is also available free of charge to state and county governments who coordinate services for people who live with autism or an intellectual disability.par operates careercare, a statewide database of career opportunities in the fields of autism and intellectual disabilities where job seekers can search free of charge for meaningful careers.

Activity 3

Advocacy - par assumes a key leadership role in the development and implementation of comprehensive services and support systems that have the capacity to fully support people with autism and intellectual disabilities in pennsylvania, according to their needs. Par advocates for effective evidence-based policies, practices and quality frameworks in order to ensure the sustainability of pennsylvania's community disability service system. In addition to those defined activities, par empowers and educates individuals and families who receive services and also those who are waiting to receive services through information exchange, partnership coalitions, as well as through its online action center which is available to the public at no charge. Par receuved a grant this year to enable even more focus on supporting families. Through this grant, the purpose of which is to strenghten the capacity of families in pennsylvania to support their family member who lives with autism or an intellectual disability to have a good life, par planned and facilitated a 2-day family supports symposium in the spring of 2013. Families who needed subsidy to participate were reimbursed for certain expenses and they incurred no fees to attend the forum which gave them the opportunity to engage with top government policymakers and other key stakeholders.
