Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To promote, organize and manage programs that provide affordable housing in order to improve the quality of life in the southeastern massachusetts area.

To enhance the quality of life for low and moderate income people by providing decent, safe and affordable housing. Housing solutions for southeastern massachusetts realizes its mission by: assisting families in finding apartments they can afford; supporting families as they move forward toward economic and social independence; aiding individuals in reconnecting with their communities; offering related housing and homeownership educational programs; helping cities and towns build or rehabilitate housing for the elderly; acting as a consultant or partner with developers to facilitate building affordable family housing; and providing expertise to cities and towns in renovating roads and streets.

Financial Statement Notes

PART IV, LINE 2B:

The organization holds tenant security deposits that are collected upon move in to a housing unit. The deposit is refunded less any significant damages or back rent upon tenant move out. The organization holds funds for clients whom participate in the fss program funded by the u.s. Department of housing and urban development. Funds are held by the organization until the client completes the program upon which the funds are disbursed to the client. If the client does not complete the program, the funds are returned to the u.s. Department of housing and urban development.

PART X, LINE 2:

Hssm evaluates tax positions taken or expected to be taken in its tax returns to determine whether the tax positions are "more-likely-than-not" of being sustained by the applicable tax authority. At june 30, 2018, hssm believes that it has no uncertain tax positions within its open tax returns (2015-2017).
