“The board will receive a draft copy of the 990 and financial statements for their review and allow for a period of questions or comments prior to filing.”
“The organization ensures compliance with the conflict of interest policy by requiring the following: 1. The trustee/officer has disclosed in good faith the conflict to the board/committee considering transaction/contract, 2. The trustee/officer may be present at the portion of the board/committee during which the transaction/contract is being discussed, however, 3. The trustee/officer does not take part in the vote, and shall excuse him/herself when the vote is being taken and lastly, 4. The transaction/contract is authorized by an affirmative vote by a majority of the disinterested trustees in attendance. The trustee/officer may be counted in determining the presence of a quorum at a meeting of the board/committee. This policy is monitored as the organization enters into transactions/contracts.”
“The process for determining compensation for the organization's president & ceo includes a review of comparability data.”
“Form 1023 and previous and current form 990 can be made available for public inspection upon request. In addition, the public may obtain the three most recent 990 from www.guidestar.org (may require registration).”
“The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest and other policies and financial statements available to the public upon request by contacting the president & ceo c/o of susan b. Anthony house administrative offices.”
“Change in beneficial interest 14,776.”
“The board of directors oversees the audit of the organization's financial statements and selection of an independent accountant. This process has not changed from the prior year.”

“In conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america and the practice followed by many museums, the organization has elected not to include objects purchased or donated to the permanent collection in the balance sheet. It is impractical to determine a value for the permanent collection, as many items are irreplaceable. Objects comprising the organization's permanent collection include the house susan b. Anthony lived in from 1866 to 1906 (a national historic landmark), photographs, memorabilia, original furniture, textiles, and other historical treasures and artifacts. Certain items, such as rare or original photographs, manuscripts, and documents are on deposit with the rare books division of the river campus libraries at the university of rochester, assuring their care and making them available to scholars. Many items in the collection are one-of-a-kind personal items related to the life and work of susan b. Anthony, and are often requested for loan to other institutions. A marble bust of anthony is on permanent loan to the monroe county hall of justice. In fiscal year 2017, the museum collaborated with nineteen different organizations to plan and organize a variety of events, programs, and exhibits to celebrate new york state's suffrage centennial. The president & ceo of the museum is a member of the new york state suffrage centennial commission through 2020 when the centennial of the passage of the 19th amendment will be celebrated. The museum made its collection available for research and loans for the suffrage centennial. More than a dozen artifacts, including susan b. Anthony's alligator purse, will be featured in the new york museum's exhibit that will open in albany, ny, in november 2017. Photographs and information about these artifacts will be included in the printed catalogue for the exhibit that will be available to the public for purchase. The museum was a partner with the rochester area suffrage centennial alliance (rasca), a collaboration that organized "because of women like her," an exhibit on woman's suffrage installed at the rochester public library, rundel building, from june - mid-october, 2017. Susan b. Anthony's black velvet cloak will be on display. Many suffrage centennial activities will continue through the balance of the calendar year and into calendar year 2018. Most of the planning for votetilla, a weeklong celebration featuring re-enactors traveling on the new york canals from seneca falls to rochester over five days on packet boats, was completed in fy 2017. The program was implemented in summer 2017. In the year ended may 31, 2017, the museum partnered with the graduate program in history at arizona state university to secure a grant to scan and digitize the martha taylor howard letters in the archives. Professor eric nystrom, trustee, was key to this initiative. Three feet (2 1/2 boxes) of documents were professionally scanned, and students from the graduate program are accessing the digitally to index and catalogue them under the supervision of graduate faculty. The museum had a custom costume case built for susan b. Anthony's velvet cloak with funds from the brooks-gribbroek historical costume fund. This case provides protection from ultra-violet light and fluctuations in humidity. It may be used to display a variety of objects in the future. The museum has initiated the 2020 quilt project to celebrate the centennial of the passage of the 19th amendment in 2020. The quilt is comprised of 20" x 20" blocks created by members of the general public to recognize a person, place, or event related to the woman suffrage movement or to "unfinished business" in the women's movement. The museum is collecting, cataloging, and sharing the blocks with organizations, libraries, and schools. Seventy-four blocks have been received to date. Over the past few years, the organization has been restoring the house in which susan b. Anthony lived. Costs associated with resto”
“The permanent endowment was established for the upkeep of gardens and grounds, conservation and care of the collection and general operations. The board designated funds were established for general operations.”
“In accordance with asc 740-15-50, the organization recognizes the tax benefits from uncertain tax positions only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by the taxing authorities. Management believes that the organization is currently in compliance with the applicable requirements of the internal revenue code. Therefore, no liability for unrecorded tax benefits has been included on the organization's financial statements. The exempt organization's informational returns are subject to audit by various taxing authorities.”

ARTIFACTS WERE LOANED TO THE NEW YORK STATE MUSEUM, MONROE COUNTY COURTHOUSE, AND THE ROCHESTER AREA SUFFRAGE CENTENNIAL ALLIANCE. RESTORATION WORK THIS YEAR FOCUSED ON ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS, CONSERVATION OF KEY ARTIFACTS, AND INSTALLATION OF A UV-SAFE COSTUME CASE. A PARTNERSHIP WITH ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY ALLOWS GRADUATE STUDENTS TO INDEX AND CATOLOGUE IMPORTANT DIGITIZED RECORDS RELATED TO THE FOUNDING OF THE MUSEUM. INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS IN MUSEUM STUDIES FOR AREA COLLEGE STUDENTS CONTINUE. INTERNATIONAL DELEGATIONS OF MUSEUM PROFESSIONALS VISITED THE MUSEUM TO LEARN ABOUT HOW OUR ORGANIZATION USES VOLUNTEERS. |
