“The association has the following classes of membership: attorney members - have all benefits of membership including the right to vote in national chapter elections. Senior members - have reached at least age 65 and have been members of the association for 25 years. They have all benefits of membership including the right to vote in national and chapter elections. They pay 1/2 the dues amount as regular attorney members. Nonprofit members - have all benefits of membership including the right to vote in national and chapter elections. They must be solely employed by an organization that provides free or low-cost legal services to immigrants and earnings must be below a salary cap set annually. They pay $125 in national dues; chapters may choose to waive chapter dues. Honorary members - have all benefits of membership including the right to vote in national and chapter elections. They are exempt from paying national and chapter dues. Law student members - have limited membership benefits and do not have the right to vote in national and chapter elections. They may not belong to chapters. Retired members - have all benefits of members except the right to vote in national elections. They must be retired from the practice of law. They pay a reduced rate of $40/year.”

“The association distributes its financial conflicts of interest policy to all board members which provides a means for leadership to disclose any potential conflicts. If conflicts are disclosed, the executive committee will make a determination as to whether or not a conflict of interest exists. If a member of the executive committee is an interested person, such member of the executive committee shall recuse himself or herself from any discussion by and decision of the executive committee related to the potential conflict after presentation of the relevant facts. The board of governors will determine the appropriate resolution to any conflicts.”

They are provided with survey salary data for ceo's of organizations comparable to aila in the washington, dc area. Based on the review and salary data, they make the compensation decision for the coming year. The executive director reviews written performance evaluations of all key employees and comparability data for each position. Salary decisions are made by the executive director, based on a stated formula that is tied to the written evaluation.”
