Activity 2

College institutional development and enhancement funding for new educational initiatives and projects, faculty enrichment and development, capital projects, native plant center, alumni program, virginia marx childrens center student tuition and program assistance, single stop usa benefit counseling, volunteer programs including conversation partners, tutors and workplace mentors. The current year brought new foundation funded initiatives to the campus including the veterans resource center, national endowment for the humanities institute and college access program. The foundation continually supports the college by sponsoring programs that will enhance the cultural life of the college community and co-develop with the college new college facilities for unmet student needs.

Activity 3

The gateway center, opened in september 2010, continues to thrive in great part due to the continued and strong support of the westchester community college foundation. Gateway centers and programs include the welcome center, the center for financial and economic education and gateway to entrepreneurship. The gateway center also houses the community college consortium for immigrant education (cccie), a national network of community colleges raising awareness and support for effective immigrant integration through education. The welcome center serves as the first point of entry and inquiry for guests and students to the college. As such the welcome center responds to all incoming calls to the college, handles the electronic inquiries through the mywcc student helpdesk and runs the colleges seasonal call center. In addition, it sponsors workshops and seminars and instruction that support access to education and advancement for the countys diverse population. These include college information sessions, workshops for esl students and citizenship preparation classes. The center for financial and economic education and gateway to entrepreneurship offer financial and entrepreneurial education to our community and our student body. Since october 2012, the gateway center has partnered with the westchester hispanic coalition to become a ny state office for new americans neighborhood opportunity center. Through this partnership, the english language institute has expanded its english language instruction to 200 low income immigrants throughout the county. The gateway center continues to support access to education for all residents of the county and partners to offer legal and other supportive sessions for our immigrant students. In the spirit of creating a welcoming community and to celebrate our countys diverse population the gateway center offers educational and cultural forums, including ethnic heritage celebrations, a film series and panel presentations touching on social, political and human rights topics.
