Mission

The virginia foundation for community college education (vfcce) mission is building student success and the commonwealth's future by supporting virginia's community college students. Vfcce provides statewide leadership in providing needed resources to help all community college students achieve college successs, supplementing the activities of the 23 colleges and securing support for system-wide initiatives that could not be undertaken by any single college.

To provide access to education for all virginians

GREAT EXPECTATIONS PROVIDES CAMPUS COACHES TO HELP FOSTER YOUTH TRANSITION TO AND NAVIGATE THE WORLD OF HIGHER EDUCATION. HAVING A SINGLE POINT OF CONTACT WHO CAN PROVIDE SUPPORT IS THE CRITICAL LINK IN HELPING THESE VULNERABLE YOUTH ACHIEVE SUCCESS IN COLLEGE. SINCE THE PROGRAM'S INCEPTION IN 2008, OVER 500 CREDENTIALS HAVE BEEN AWARDED TO GREAT EXPECTATIONS STUDENTS, WITH 25% OF GRADUATES EARNING ACADEMIC HONORS. SIGNIFICANTLY, PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ARE TWICE AS LIKELY TO GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE COMPARED WITH ALL YOUTH WHO HAVE BEEN IN FOSTER CARE. RVHI PROVIDES CAREER COACHES IN RURAL HIGH SCHOOLS AND OFFERS FINANCIAL INCENTIVES TO ENCOURAGE HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE COMPLETION. CURRENTLY, NINE RURAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM. TO DATE, RVHI'S CAREER COACHES IN HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS RURAL VIRGINIA HAVE SERVED OVER 12,000 STUDENTS. IN 2016-17, 51% OF THOSE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WENT ON TO ENROLL AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE.IN ADDITION, RVHI HAS AWARDED EDUCATION AND TRAINING INCENTIVES TO 356 STUDENTS IN RURAL VIRGINIA TO ASSIST WITH TUITION, FEES, BOOKS, SUPPORTIVE SERVICES, AND OTHER COSTS NOT COVERED BY TRADITIONAL FINANCIAL AID, SUCH AS TECHNOLOGY, TRANSPORTATION, AND CHILDCARE. TO DATE, RVHI STUDENTS HAVE EARNED 176 CREDENTIALS, WHICH INCLUDE ASSOCIATE DEGREES AND WORKFORCE CERTIFICATIONS. IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0IMPLEMENTED IN JULY OF 2016, THE NEW ECONOMY WORKFORCE CREDENTIAL GRANT REDUCES BY 2/3 THE COST TO STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN APPROVED, NONCREDIT WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS THAT PREPARE STUDENTS FOR HIGH DEMAND CREDENTIALS IN TARGETED INDUSTRIES IN THE COMMONWEALTH. IN THE FIRST YEAR OF THE PROGRAM, APPROXIMATELY 4000 CREDENTIALS WERE EARNED BY STUDENTS WHO ENROLLED IN APPROVED PROGRAMS AT ALL 23 OF VIRGINIA'S COMMUNITY COLLEGES. FOR 2017, DEDICATED WORKFORCE CREDENTIAL CAREER COACHES AT EACH OF THE COLLEGES' WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT DIVISIONS ASSISTED STUDENTS WITH ENROLLMENT, SECURING FINANCIAL AID TO ASSIST WITH THE FIRST THIRD OF COSTS STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR, PROGRAM AND CREDENTIAL COMPLETION, JOB PLACEMENT, AND JOB RETENTION.
