Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission is to help companion pets stay at home and out of animal shelters by providing donated pet food and pet care services to pet families in financial need. We service families facing financial crisis in the 5 county area of pennsylvania. At times, we are the last option for families to keep their companion pets at home. In addition to providing companion pets food, we help financially stressed rescues who are having a difficult time obtaining pet food. The organization has a core group of 15 volunteers that volunteers each about 10-15 hours per month with an overall group of about 30 that volunteers an additional 3-4 hours per month each. The organization also has larger corporate donators that add to the organization's volunteer base by allowing their employee's to sign up with the organization as part of the company's annual volunteer days. These corporate volunteers contribute around 4 hours each and come from various corporations such as liberty mutual, merck pharmaceutica

THE SAFEHAVEN PROGRAM

Donated pet food & care items: dry and canned dog, cat, bird, fish, reptile and small animal food. When available, we also offer treats, toys, litter, bedding, flea/tick treatments, and grooming supplies. Veterinary assistance program: spaying, neutering and low cost vaccination of pantry clients' pets. Started a new program in february 2021, safehaven was formed to help the texas rescue who we were supplying food to deal with a hoarding situation of what was 26 but ended up being more than 48 akitas. Money was raised through a go-fund me page and put into a paypal account that covered the movement of all of the dogs off the bad site to new boarding facilities and the proceeds paid for all of the new boarding fees; veterinary costs; heartworm treatment; medical treatments; humane euthanasia; transport costs to other rescue organizations; spay/neuter costs; labor for people to move the dogs to the new location. The initial funds raised were not enough to cover the costs of the fund so, an anonymous donor stepped up and continued to help pay the bills for the dogs. During 2021 the non-profit helped 1,446 families, 77 were new to the our assistance programs. With 2,227 dogs and 3,335 cats being helped.

THEY ALSO MUST PROVIDE COPIES OF SOME FORM: SS DETERMINATION LETTER; DISABILITY; UNEMPLOYMENT; WORKMAN COMPENSATION; PUBLIC ASSISTANCE DETERMINATION LETTER AND/OR THE FIRST 2 PAGES OF THEIR FEDERAL INCOME TAX RETURN. THEY MUST MEET THE 200% FEDERAL POVERTY LIMITS FOR THE REQUISITE NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THEIR FAMILY. ANIMALS THAT REQUIRE SPAY/NEUTER HAVE 90 DAYS TO GET THIS DONE TO STAY IN THE PROGRAM AND WE OFFER A LOW COST PROGRAM UNDER A JOINT GRANT WITH OUR PARTNER THE SPAYED CLUB. WE REQUIRE A CHECK IN EVERY 6 MONTHS AND THEY AGREE TO ALLOW US TO CONDUCT SPOT CHECKS AT THEIR HOMES TO MAKE SURE THAT THE INFORMATION ON THEIR APPLICATION DOES MATCH UP WITH THEIR HOMELIFE. MONEY WAS RAISED THROUGH A GO-FUND ME PAGE AND PUT INTO A PAYPAL ACCOUNT THAT COVERED THE MOVEMENT OF ALL OF THE DOGS OFF THE BAD SITE TO NEW BOARDING FACILITIES AND THE PROCEEDS PAID FOR ALL OF THE NEW BOARDING FEES; VETERINARY COSTS; HEARTWORM TREATMENT; MEDICAL TREATMENTS; HUMANE EUTHANASIA; TRANSPORT COSTS TO OTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS; SPAY/NEUTER COSTS; LABOR FOR PEOPLE TO MOVE THE DOGS TO THE NEW LOCATION. THE INITIAL FUNDS RAISED WERE NOT ENOUGH TO COVER THE COSTS OF THE FUND SO, AN ANONYMOUS DONOR STEPPED UP AND CONTINUED TO HELP PAY THE BILLS FOR THE DOGS. DURING 2021 THE NON-PROFIT HELPED 1,446 FAMILIES, 77 WERE NEW TO THE OUR ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS. WITH 2,227 DOGS AND 3,335 CATS BEING HELPED.
