“The brc provided lactation services by an ibclc to 1,584 families for a total of 2920 visits in 2019. We have two outpatient offices located in abington and wayne, pa. Seventy two percent of families who did not have insurance that covered a visit, qualified for our sliding scale of payment. The brc families are appreciative 95% felt their ibclc was knowledgeable. 96% felt they were provided with a clear plan. 97% felt their ibclc showed concern for their family. 99% would recommend the brc. In order to get families off to the best start, the brc provided 24 prenatal breastfeeding classes as well as 9 preggers pizza parties. It's important that families are educated before the baby is born. In order to maintain a relationship with our clients and to keep them supported throughout their breastfeeding journey, the brc offers free weekly support groups and free community counselors. In 2019 we hosted 1,123 support group and we added 23 community counselors to our current group of 53. The brc also provides parent classes to keep families up to date. There are 16 classes offered in total. To name a few, we offer starting solids, cpr, and music classes. Continued support from lactation consultants, as well as support from peers increases breastfeeding duration rates. Brc clients breastfeed 3x longer than the national average. The brc's mission also includes education for healthcare professionals. Thirty-one healthcare professionals participated in observation days at the brc outpatient offices. These include resident physicians, nurses, and doulas. We also have a thriving internship program for aspiring ibclcs. Four women finished their 500 clinical hour requirement to sit for the ibclc exam. The brc continues to provide inpatient care at holy redeemer hospital and temple university hospital six days a week. Our ibclcs provide clinical lactation management to families in the early postpartum period.”
