Zhang sah is an independent nonprofit organization that provides character, cultural, physical and academic development and education in conjunction with multidisciplinary martial arts programs. Zhang sah supports the mental and physical health and well-being of its members by offering them tools for resiliency and discovery along with black-belt training, age-appropriate martial arts training, character education, and scientific and philosophical teaching. Within these offerings, zhang sah supports working families with its structured programs that provide educational development for children, youth and adults.

The program utilizes sports based positive youth development as a strategy to achieve DHS OST project goals and outcomes. Zhang Sah supports the mental and physical health and well-being of its members by offering them tools for resiliency and discovery along with black belt training age appropriate martial arts training, character education, and scientific and philosophical teaching. Within these offerings, Zhang Sah supports working families with structured programs that provide educational development for young adults in grades 6-8. Zhang Sah leverages Project Based Learning (PBL), a dynamic multi-disciplinary approach to encourage students to actively explore real-world problems that are important to them. This model aims to support the acquisition of a deeper knowledge and understanding of a variety of transferable skills, such as inquiry, problem solving, and collaborative skills. The PBL approach is used as the primary framework to deliver youth directed activities. Zhang Sah has designed and named the PBL model MOSTSPORTS+, which is a program model that creates a unique and rich opportunity for asset based positive youth development. MOSTSPORTS+ (Middle School Out of School Time Sports Plus) is a program model proposed by Zhang Sah in collaboration with the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative (PYSC) , Community Groups, and local schools designed with the goal to create a geographically and financially accessible M OST opportunity to the at-risk kids that need it the M OST during the time of their lives that has the M OST impact. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc | 0 | The Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative (PYSC) consists of 29 member organizations that offer character-building and life skills training within the framework of healthy physical development. A pioneer in the country, it augments the impact of local non-profit organizations that use sports to benefit children and youth, particularly those from under-resourced environments. Collectively, these groups offer a range of sports activities such as cycling, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, riding, rowing, running, soccer, squash, and tennis. Four PYSC agencies are working together to create work opportunities for Philadelphia youth during the summer months. Zhang Sah is the lead organization of this PYSC initiative. The other three organizations working to support the program are: Starfinder, Neighborhood Bike Works (NBW) and The First Tee Greater Philadelphia (FTGP). The PYSC agencies focus strongly on Sports Based Youth Development (SBYD) program model. The collective geographic focus of the PYSC agencies in Philadelphia are: Queen Village, Chinatown, Bella Vista, Mt. Airy, North Philadelphia, Southwest Philadelphia, West Philadelphia, South Philadelphia, Center City, Feltonville, Kensington and entire Greater Philadelphia Area. The PYSC agencies also serve the high crime zipcodes recognized by the City of Philadelphia 19121, 19124, 19132, 19140, 19143, 19145, 19146, 19149 and 19151. In addition, the Collaborative serves low-income population in Philadelphia. 70% or more of the students who attend the programs qualify for reduced or free lunch program and/or TANF. Temple University School of Tourism and Hospitality Management: Sports Industry Research Center conducted a three-year longitudinal quantitative study from 2010-2013. The report indicates that ZS was the top performing PYSC organization with regards to the following outcomes: involvement, commitment, satisfaction, character, connection, caring, competence, confidence, and resiliency. This indicates the interaction of group leaders/coaches with the students that lead to such remarkable outcomes for the organization. Following the same strategy, junior coaches will be trained and mentored to achieve similar positive youth development outcomes for themselves and the students in attendance. |
