Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

Annual conflict of interest statements are required.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 15A

The board of directors set the compensation for the executive director and provides compensation guidlines for other positions by its approval of the budget. Compensation levels within the organization have traditionally been lower than industry standards by the choice of the employees, who consider their work a ministry in service of god and humanity.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Beyond borders helps people build movements to liberate themselves from oppression and isolation. In haiti and the united states, we are bringing people together for just and lasting change. The organization is currently commited to helping build the following 5 movements: to 1) end child slavery, 2) guarantee universal access to quality primary education, 3) prevent violence against women and girls, 4) promote economic justice and sustainable livelihoods, and 5) bring oppressed and privileged people together to work for their mutual liberation.

Urban model community initiative: despite the ever-increasingly deteriorating situation in port au prince during the year, the urban mci team has been able to continue implementing programming, especially urban lagonav neighborhoods, with documented success and impact. Key movement- building initiatives progressed in four urban neighborhoods that worked to expand the base of trained activists, mobilized and organized around shared agendas. In port au prince, despite limited physical contact with bb staff, activists of eight srn branches, under the leadership of the network coordination committee, carried out various awareness-raising, advocacy and protection intervention activities. Technical support continued with long- term partner partenariat pour le dveloppement local (pdl) in the north of the country; a new technical support partnership was also established with a new partner, congregation of the religious of jesus and mary in the middle/lower north part of the country.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Rural model community initiative: work to strengthen child protection awareness, mobilization, and engagement efforts already underway continued with expansion into 21 new communities. Various initiatives in new and previously active communities worked to expand the base of trained activists, mobilized and organized around shared agendas. Local authorities continued to manifest active engagement and decisive leadership in promoting children's rights. Seven schools completed the 2-year training program; funds also supported initiatives with 30 other schools in the network. Community-based branches of the education platform demonstrated intensified engagement and leadership. Problems were identified and discussed, solutions and action plans developed and implemented. Ministry of education school inspectors played a larger, integral role. Stakeholders mobilized local resources to fund local education initiatives, and to support children to enroll in school and stay enrolled in schools. Participants of the family graduation program towards graduation, planned for july 2023.schools and families received support with their gardens thirty-five new families created household gardens.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Rethinking power program (movement to end violence against women and girls, vawg): the results of bb's impact evaluation (conducted by the global women's institute - gwi), finalized at the beginning of the fiscal year, demonstrated that, despite increases in food insecurity and the deterioration of general conditions, overall past-year experiences of physical and/or sexual ipv were cut in half in participating communities (from 23%-12%). Ipv against young women age 15-23 was cut by 40%, and ipv against women and girls with disabilities was cut by 35% at a community level. This and other research results prove that not only are sasa, power to girls, and safe and capable highly effective in haiti, but also that they can be effective while leaving no one behind, and during a time of crisis. English and creole research results webinars were organized with gwi, celebrating the evidence of what works to prevent violence without leaving anyone behind during a period of protracted crisis. With direct programming activities in the southeast, communities in lamontay and ben are entering phase 2 working to deepen analysis as it relates to women and men, girls and boys, including disability rights. More than 200 trained activists are involved in direct programming in the two communal sections. Material creation and adaptation continue. Twenty organizations participated in long-term technical support on one of bb's methodologies (7) and or short courses (13). More long-term partners are interested but lack funding for implementation.

Form 990, Part V

Fiscal year 2023: overview during the fiscal year ending june 30, 2023, beyond borders' complementary programming and work with local partners reached some of haiti's most vulnerable people in urban and rural communities in haiti's southeast, west, and central departments of haiti. Beyond borders employed 56 staff (haiti and north america) and operated programming out of three haiti-based offices in jacmel, port-au-prince, and on the island of la gonve, haiti. North american staff are located in several us states and in canada. Food insecurity, drought, inflation, socio-political unrest and unprecedented gang violence on the mainland (primarily but not exclusively in the larger port au prince area) impacted program advancement and implementation. Bb staffing and some partners staffing/capacity challenges also affected program progress and reporting during the year. Bb pivoted with strategies and approaches to provide increased support to partners and staff and to adopt creative solutions. Urban model community initiative movement to end child domestic servitude (restavk): while unprecedented gang violence hindered much work in and around the urban capital of port au prince, the urban team was able to continue implementing critical programming, especially in urban neighborhoods on lagonav island. Key movement-building initiatives progressed in four urban neighborhoods that worked to expand the base of trained activists, mobilized and organized around shared agendas. Two-hundred-and-five people graduated from 17 urban "education is a conversation (esk)-child rights" dialogue groups established. Members from the four branches of the adult survivor of restavk network (srn) participated in learning and sharing exchange meetings, to talk about how to act together to fight against the restavk practice in their communities and force local authorities to act. A workshop on mobilizing local resources to support community-led movement activities were conducted, along with themes related to building a community-based child protect structures. Eleven srn members were trained in a community-based norm-changing methodology called ti rankont sekt (trs); the survivors then hosted and ran 22 trs dialogue groups in their communities over a 3-month period with a total of 304 participants. The four srn branches conducted organizational self-assessments to identify capacity-development needs to sustain their movement-building efforts. For two of the four this was the first self-assessment; for the other two branches, each saw a significant increase in capacity across eight assessment categories (49 and 57 points in the total scores). These assessments were followed up with individual technical support visits and tailored capacity strengthening workshops on subjects like financial management, preparing narrative and financial reports developing action plans, and establishing village savings and loans groups to support individual members as well. Together the srn collectively conducted 17 movement-building activities throughout the year, including "zero restavk" community awareness-raising campaigns in two neighborhoods, reaching more than 1,800 families. A total of 27 children received various forms of support interventions. In port au prince, despite limited physical contact with bb staff, activists of eight srn branches, under the leadership of the network coordination committee, carried out various awareness-raising, advocacy and protection intervention activities (collectively a total of 24 activities). Technical support partner, pdl, continued to work with their target communities to roll out movement initiatives. Twenty pdl-supported child protection brigades conducted their own organizational self- assessments followed by training and support visits. Additional activities included: advocacy training, community awareness-raising campaigns, training and awareness-raising on the haitian anti-trafficking law and interventions to support children

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0RETHINKING POWER PROGRAM (MOVEMENT TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS, VAWG): THE RESULTS OF BB'S IMPACT EVALUATION (CONDUCTED BY THE GLOBAL WOMEN'S INSTITUTE - GWI), FINALIZED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FISCAL YEAR, DEMONSTRATED THAT, DESPITE INCREASES IN FOOD INSECURITY AND THE DETERIORATION OF GENERAL CONDITIONS, OVERALL PAST-YEAR EXPERIENCES OF PHYSICAL AND/OR SEXUAL IPV WERE CUT IN HALF IN PARTICIPATING COMMUNITIES (FROM 23%-12%).
