FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Placing our faith in the saving power of god experienced in the life, death, and resurrection of jesus christ, the lancaster county council of churches feeds the hungry, clothes the needy, and lends its voice to benefit the marginalized of our culture. Empowered by the holy spirit, we invite a wide range of individuals, organizations, and interfaith communities to join us as we seek to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with god.

Form 990, Page 1, Part I, Line 6

Each year, hundreds of volunteers work with us to further our mission. They provide services which include but are not limited to: sorting donations, stocking shelves, filling and distributing orders in the food bank, and the clothing bank, preparing and serving community meals, and serving in the winter shelter. Volunteers also serve as board and committee members.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The pa workwear program supplying appropriate career wear for job interviews and first weeks on the job to 251 clients in 2013 at 57,004, this program is through partnerships with careerlink, lancaster community action program, and the county assistance office. A community meals program, serving three free, hot meals a day, 365 days a year to anyone in need in partnership with dozens of local congregations; over 113,516 meals were served in 2013 at 227,032. Our unique wheels to work vehicle program is a licensed car dealership transforming lives by selling reliable used vehicles at a fraction of their actual value to qualified low wage families; while providing maximum tax deductions to the car's donors. We offer a small loan program for clients in partnership with a local bank to allow individuals to begin rebuilding their credit. Last year, 13 households gained new hope through their new-to-them vehicle. Having reliable transportation increases our clients job successes over what was possible with public transportation. Wheels to work also has a bicycle program which provided 29 households with a bike in good repair wtih safety accessories for clients' use in commuting to their jobs. The women's winter shelter providing emergency shelter for women and children during the coldest months of the year averaged 28 guests per night in 2013. The shelter hosted 198 different women and 68 different children during calendar year 2013 for a total of 2,649 night stays. Lccc continues to develop new programs in response to community needs, and coordinate with other organizations to provide services. For example, our new hygiene bank, established in 2013 provides households and personal hygiene items to low-income individuals that cannot purchase particular items with their food stamps. The hygiene bank served 71 people in 2013 during the program's inaugural year. The individuals served by lccc come from many walks of life: unemployed, underemployed, refugees, senior citizens, disabled, victims of natural disasters such as fire and flood, hungry, homeless, facing eviction or shutoff of utilities, in need of clothing, dealing with substance addiction, unable to afford critical life-sustaining medications, or facing another crisis such as job loss, divorce, or loss of a loved one. Our services are available to all residents of lancaster county, with additional qualifications necessary for some programs. Lccc appreciates the contributions of nearly 750 volunteers in 2013 plus additional one-time volunteers who graciously contribute of their time to reach out to their community.
