Mission

The charter schools mission is to prepare newarks next generation of children to be intelectually, emotionally, socially and financially responsible citizens.

Marion P. Thomas Charter School, Inc. (the "Charter School") serves as a neighborhood resource as a model for other similar schools. It provides education to students from Pre-K through 8th Grade in a newly expanded school campus with smaller class sizes, extended learning program, after school in all levels for the gifted and talented, integration of technology in every subject, and breakfast/lunch programs.

IRS990/Desc0In 2014-2015, the Charter School had the following major initiatives in order for our village to continue to achieve high levels of excellence:A. The Charter School scheduled activities for all stakeholders in their PARCC readiness plan. A movie night was held for parents to provide background information and a better understanding of what the test entailed and how they could be partners for success. Mock tests were conducted to ensure that the proper technology was in place. Teachers were required to take their grade level test to gain a better understanding of the test. A pilot group of students attended a Saturday Academy program to prepare for the test.B. Instructional professional development was focused on data and intervention program implementation training. A new portfolio of intervention and progress monitoring programs were adopted. C. A new science program was adopted. LabAids for grades 6-12 and Foss for grades K-5.D. The Sussex Ave. campus project was completed by the Friends to be leased to MPTCS. It is a 73,000 sq. ft. facility to serve as the high school campus scheduled to open in September 2015.E. The Board began to review the travel policies relative to e-commerce restraints for doing business with travel entities such as airlines and pre-payment services requiring credit card payments F. The Board began the review of real estate management services with service providers. G. The Board received a grant to review and revise by-laws and interaction with community and related partners. H. The Board sought counsel in the development of a capital fund as recommended in the audit for real estate projects.
