Mission

The mission of the foundation is to seek funding to support hearing impaired infants and children and their families through identification, therapy and education.

The mission of the sound start babies foundation for deaf and hard of hearing children is to support families of babies with hearing loss with identification, evaluation, therapeutic intervention and education during the most critical years of brain development - birth to age 3 - regardless of their financial status.

IRS990/Desc0The foundation raises money exclusively for the Sound Start Babies Program, an early intervention service for babies with hearing loss throughout northern NJ. Each year 50-60 babies who are deaf or hard of hearing receive the specialized therapies they need during the most critical years of brain developmentbirth to age 3regardless of their financial status. The foundation must fill a serious funding gap as state government covers only 1/3 of intervention costs. The foundation maintains a financial reserve to ensure that any child starting the program as an infant will be covered until they reach their third birthday. The foundation is staffed entirely by volunteers except for part-time grant writer and communications assistant. Apprximately 86% of donations go directly to the Sound Start Babies program.
