Mission

Research and education of children's injuries by toys and other products

World against toys causing harm, inc. ("w.a.t.c.h.") is a nonprofit organization dedicated to children's causes. Through education, informational programs, printed materials, audio/video presentations and research (particularly into the etiology of injuries to children and to the dangers presented to children by ordinary and by hazardous products, including playthings) w.a.t.c.h. Seeks to reduce injuries to children. While informing the public about hazardous toys, children's products and other hazards associated with certain recreational activities, w.a.t.c.h. Is committed to raising awareness about unsafe children's products. W.a.t.c.h. Continues to work to prevent unnecessary injuries and deaths through research and education.

THE BI-ANNUAL CONFERENCES (THE FALL "TOY SAFETY CONFERENCE AND THE SPRING "SUMMER SAFETY CONFERENCE") HAVE GENERATED EXTENSIVE NATIONAL PRESS AND MEDIA COVERAGE. YEAR-ROUND NEWSPAPER, RADIO AND TELEVISION INTERVIEWS ARE ANOTHER WAY W.A.T.C.H. HELPS KEEP THE PUBLIC INFORMED ABOUT SAFTEY INFORMATION RELEVANT TO TOYS AND CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS. W.A.T.C.H.'S EFFORTS IN PROTECTING CHILDREN HAS BEEN CHRONICLED BY MANY NATIONAL AND LOCAL MEDIA OUTLETS INCLUDING THE DOCTORS, MEGYN KELLY TODAY, FOX & FRIENDS, LARRY KING LIVE, DATELINE, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, THE TODAY SHOW, 60 MINUTES, CNN NEWS, LA TIMES, BOSTON HERALD, THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, AND USA TODAY. MEDIA ARTICLES AND APPEARANCES HAVE DISSEMINATED IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION TO A WIDE AUDIENCE (I.E. MAINTAINS FUNDRAISING PROGRAMS TO HELP SUPPORT ITS WORK, INCLUDING EFFORTS TO PRODUCE AND DISSEMINATE SAFETY INFORMATION. IT SOLICITS FUNDS USING ONLINE MARKETING PLATFORMS, SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS, IN-PERSON FUNDRAISING EVENTS AND DIRECT APPEALS IN WHICH DONATIONS ARE SOLICITED FROM INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE DONATED TO THE ORGANIZATION IN PRIOR YEARS AS WELL AS NEW POTENTIAL DONORS. IN 2019, PROMOTING A CAMPAIGN CALLED #SHOUTSAFETY, DONATIONS WERE SOLICITED THROUGH TWO ONLINE MARKETING EFFORTS (VIA CONSTANT CONTACT), INDIVIDUAL SOCIAL MEDIA FUNDRAISERS (VIA FACEBOOK), A FUNDRAISING EVENT, AND PERSONAL SOLICITATIONS (EMAILS AND CALLS) IN AN EFFORT TO ACQUIRE NEW DONORS TO THE ORGANIZATION. AS A RESULT OF AN INAUGURAL IN-PERSON FALL FUNDRAISING BRUNCH, OVER 42% OF DONATIONS IN 2019 WERE FROM NEW DONORS WHO EITHER ATTENDED OR RECEIVED NOTICE OF DONATION OPPORTUNITIES RELATING TO THE EVENT. FUNDRAISING EFFORTS ARE FUELED IN PART BY THE PUBLIC'S INTEREST IN RECEIVING CHILD SAFETY INFORMATION. IN 2020, W.A.T.C.H. IS ALSO PLANNING ACQUISITIONS THAT WILL REACH OUT TO INDIVIDUALS WITH AN EYE TOWARDS TARGETING EXPANDED GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS AND/OR GROUPS NOT PREVIOUSLY ENGAGED.
