Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 4

In august of 2016, poweroptions amended their articles of incorporation to modify their organizational status from a section 501(c)(3) to a 501(c)(4) as further described below. The corporation is organized exclusively for social welfare activities within the meaning of section 501(c)(4) of the internal revenue code and beneficial to the public interest and welfare, including, without limitation, educating, informing, and assisting non-profit social welfare organizations, schools, public housing authorities, and governmental entities in managing their energy costs and reducing the environmental impacts of such energy use, through group buying solicitations, energy conservation, demand reduction, and procuring renewable energy resources. In so doing, the corporation supports the reduction of energy costs to the public, government, and non-profit organizations, while reducing pollution, which, in turn, relieves them of financial burdens which would otherwise interfere with the fulfillment of their public purpose.
