Mission

Aids connecticut, inc.'s mission is to improve the lives of people impacted by hiv through care and supportive services, housing, advocacy and prevention throughout the state of connecticut. Its vision is to be a recognized leader in the prevention and care of people impacted by hiv, creating new approaches to service, working in collaboration with all stakeholders, and advocating for a dignified, respectful system of service delivery.

To provide direct care, prevention education, harm reduction and psychosocial support services to people affected by hiv/aids.

The organization regularly and consistently monitors and enforces compliance with the conflict of interest policy by having all staff, volunteers and board members upon hiring appointment or election make a full, written disclosure of any interest, relationships, and holdings that could potentially result in a conflict of interest. The organization requires this disclosure to be updated annually or earlier if appropriate. The organization also requires in the course of meetings and activities any participants will disclose any interest in a transaction or decision. After disclosure such interested party will not be able to participate in discussion or vote on the policy or transaction.

Distribution center: the community distribution center is funded by dph and is responsible for disseminating educational materials that provide a wide range of age appropriate and culturally specific health information. These materials are provided at no cost to individuals, schools, businesses, and community organizations in connecticut. Available materials include booklets and posters (english and spanish) on a variety of health topics. The center also distributes male and female condoms, dental dams and lubricant to organizations throughout the state.

Part iv, line 2b: these funds listed on form 990, part x, line 21, represent client funds held by the organization. The organization received clients' social security checks which are deposited in each client's respective account. The funds are used to pay the clients monthly bills.

Income from certain activities not directly related to aids connecticut inc.'s tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. Aids connecticut, inc. PROVIDED SERVICE TO APPROXIMATELY 24,000 CLIENTS DURING 2013 AND EXCHANGE APPROXIMATELY 164,000 SYRINGES.MEDICATION ADHERENCE (MAP): EXPENSE: $88,611PROVIDE HIV-POSITIVE CLIENTS WITH EDUCATION, TOOLS AND NURSING SUPPORT TO UNDERSTAND AND MANAGE THEIR COMPLEX MEDICATION REGIMENS. SERVED OVER 5,000 MEALS IN 2014.MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY: EXPENSE: $60,841MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY SERVICES HAVE BEEN PROVEN AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT IN THE CARE OF HIV POSITIVE INDIVIDUALS WHO MAY EXPERIENCE ANY RANGE OF METABOLIC CONDITIONS WHICH MAY BE MANAGED WITH DIETARYCHANGES AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT.
