Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The collections, which were acquired through purchases and contributions since chemical heritage foundation's inception, are not recognized as assets on the consolidated statement of financial position.

PART III, LINE 4:

Chemical heritage foundation has a collection of donated books, artifacts and scientific instruments that are held for education, research, scientific and curatorial purposes. Each of the items is cataloged, preserved and cared for, and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. The collections are subject to a policy that requires proceeds from their sales to be used to acquire other items for collections. The foundation also has three collections of art held for exhibition, preservation, education and research purposes.

PART V, LINE 4:

The chemical heritage foundation uses income from its endowment funds in keeping with the donors wishes. In the case of the mildred and donald othmer fund, income is used as directed in donald othmer's will to be used to complete or enhance the building in which the donald and mildred top libarary of chemical history is to be housed and to support the libary activities.

PART X, LINE 2:

The foundation follows financial accounting standards board (fasb) accounting standards update no. 2009-06,income taxes (topic 740): implementation guidance on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes and disclosure amendments for nonpublic entities taxes. Fasb accounting standards codification (asc) 740 prescribes guidance for the financial statement recognition, measurement and disclosure of uncertain tax positions. Tax positions must meet a more-likely-than-not recognition threshold. There were no tax positions for which it is reasonably possible that the total amounts of unrecognized tax benefits will significantly increase or decrease within the next year. Tax years from 2010 through 2013 remain subject to examination by major tax jurisdictions.
