Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

The casa project: the casa project is a homelessness prevention initiative working in partnership with community-based organizations and health centers to assist low-income households to remain stably housed. The casa project offers households a one-stop program that can assist them with their immediate housing crisis that will ensure they do not become homeless. Casa project advocates assist over 2,000 households annually with resources for back rent, arrearage management programs for utilities, linkage to legal services and landlord mediation. Advocates are also able to assist with furniture and bedding. A bed for every child: a bed for every child partner with public schools to identify children in need of a bed. Eight years ago, through our homelessness prevention work, we discovered families could not afford the purchase of a bed for their child (ren), needlessly compromising their education due to lack of stable, healthy sleep. A bed for every child has a simple yet impactful mission of supplying new beds to kids growing up in poverty so they can get a good night's sleep. Each year, over 2,000 beds are delivered to the homes of children in need giving them one more tool in their toolbox to school success. Big kid bed initiative: a toddler moving into a "big kid bed" is a childhood milestone. Yet that milestone cannot be met by far too many toddlers growing up in a low-income household simply because their parents do not have the financial means to purchase a bed. The big kid bed initiative, in partnership with community health centers, work to ensure a toddler growing up in poverty enters kindergarten ready to learn by providing them with a new bed and parental education on the importance of healthy sleep.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Homelink initiative: one of the keys that are needed to assist families and individuals from losing their homes are for them to access homeless prevention services easily. The homelink initiative has create a network where early intervention can occur at the first sign of a housing crisis- thus ensuring that affective intervention can be provided to the household in an effective manner that can support stabilizing their housing crisis and minimizing the pontential loss of housing. The homelink initiative was created with the main goal of embedding homelessness into existing services that households already access, such as schools, health centers, and home visiting nurse and social workers. Through this type of collaboration, homelink has begun to create an effective early warning system that has proven to reach at-risk households before they become homeless.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE CASA PROJECT: THE CASA PROJECT IS A HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION INITIATIVE WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS AND HEALTH CENTERS TO ASSIST LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS TO REMAIN STABLY HOUSED.
