“In need. During fiscal year 2016, the food pantry provided 75,942 meals for 8,438 individuals including 2,875 children. Emergency financial assistance/ advocacy & referral program: dutchess outreach works on a daily basis with families and individuals who are facing various emergencies in their lives. During fiscal year 2016, the organization was able to help 115 people purchase needed prescriptions. Through either financial assistance, and/or effective advocacy and referral, the organization was able to prevent the eviction of 102 people, including 13 children, and maintain utility and/or heating service for 616 people, of whom 161 were children. Gifts (giving individuals food for the soul), which is the organization's home-delivered meals program, provided 2,148 meals to 6 home-bound people living with hiv/aids and to their dependents. The children's clothes closet provided 1,000 visitors with free used clothing for their children. The annual coat drive/giveaway collected over 5,000 coats, distributed through sites in surrounding towns. Acts of kindness (aok) works with human services agencies to provide clients with household items which they cannot afford to purchase on their own. Dutchess outreach operates a mobile farmers' market, the poughkeepsie plenty fresh market. The market serves areas of the city of poughkeepsie certified by the usda as food deserts. In our first season, july to november 2015 we sold locally grown, fresh affordable produce to 692 people, the majority of whom were senior citizens and women with children nutritionally at-risk.”
