Sage eldercare's spend-a-day adult day health care center: since 1975, the oldest adult day center in nj, spend-a-day has offered older adults days of activities that stimulate mind and body in a safe, secure, home-away-from-home environment. Participants display improvements in mental and physical health and maintain their level of independence through engagement, peer interaction and support. Spend-a-day is an important alternate to the anxiety of leaving a parent or grandparent home alone during the day, to the costliness of paying a trained person to help, or the emotional upheaval of deciding to move to an institutional care setting. Licensed by the department of health and senior services since 1999, spend-a-day offers daily programming that accommodates the various interests and needs of its participants with staff who are experts in dealing with a multitude of conditions including early, middle and late stages of dementia, limited mobility, incontinence, post-stroke, diabetes, parkinsons, post-fracture, cardiac illnesses, and depression. The center also offers a full range of supportive health services such as nursing care and coordinated access to podiatry, physical and occupational therapies, beauty salon, nutritional counseling and more. In 2012 spend-a-day provided 6,782 days of care to 116 clients plus respite support for their caregivers.

Activity 3

Sage eldercare's meals on wheels: in 2012, over 36,000 professionally planned and prepared meals were delivered to almost 300 clients in northern union county, millburn-short hills, and the chathams with the help of 250 volunteers. Established in 1966 as one of the first in nj, meals on wheels provides home delivered meals, monday through saturday, to individuals aged 60 and older who are unable to food shop or cook for themselves. The volunteers delivering the meals also provide an essential daily check to many older adults who may otherwise go without seeing anyone for days.
