The mission of chagrin arts is to enrich life by presenting inspiring arts programming and stimulating conversations.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Chagrin foundation for arts & culture's focus is to present "arts with a purpose" programming that educates, challenges thinking, inspires and brings change to social justice issues through the power of the arts. A primary social issue that has become a priority is that of wrongful conviction. The programs included two "freedom rocks" concerts with bands that featured outstanding musicians including an ohio supreme court justice, exonerees who have personally experienced the tragedy of wrongful conviction, and northeast ohio lawyers. Another major event was the first anniversary celebration of the garden of hope with the addition of eight new engraved butterflies on the original sculpture signifying the eight ohioans exonerated from prison this year for crimes they did not commit. The sculpture now has 42 butterflies.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

Chagrin foundation for arts & culture presents a series of five exhibits in chagrin arts' wenk gallery throughout the year. The artists are local, regional and national. Artwork includes oil and watercolor paintings, dioramas, woodworking and jewelry. Most of the artists featured have served years behind bars for crimes they did not commit. Other artists exhibit shows that bring awareness to social issues. Another form of public programming presented are three 'conversation spaces' when an audience attends a gallery event with the artist who talks about his/her artwork followed by a presentation that allows for opportunities of interactive dialogue between the artist and the attendies. Staying true to our mission of inspiring performances, chagrin arts was proud to present the internationally acclaimed callisto quartet in concert for the fourth year.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

Chagrin foundation for arts & culture continued its summer tradition of presenting four performances of a shakespeare play for the fifth year in collaboration with a neighboring community. This is a fully staged outdoor production in a community park setting. Chagrin arts partners with play on shakespeare in ashland, oregon that provices the translations by current playwrights. The purpose of this annual event is to make shakespeare more accessible to students and the general public.
