Activity 2

Every second Saturday of the month, 25 to 40 volunteers gather to sort various items such as food, clothing, books, toys and furniture. These items are labeled and cataloged. They are then loaded into a tractor-trailer container and shipped to St. Pius X in Kingston, Jamaica. JOP is able to ship 3 to 4 containers a year. This fiscal year we shipped 704 boxes of food and 2,010 boxes or items of clothing and goods. An estimated 400 elderly poor receive food from the St. Pius X Food Pantry twice per month. In addition, we funded $5,000 in food aid to the rural community at St. Martin de Porres. Reported amounts include non-cash in-kind food valued at $24,000 and other items valued at $154,374.

Activity 3

JOP funded the building of homes for needy families and the elderly, who previously lived in make-shift tents, rusty sheets of tin and cardboard shelters. 23 homes were built, each with a concrete foundation, sturdy roof, walls and a door. Community facilities were enhanced with the building of a multi-purpose science building and scouts center, culinary classroom rehab at St. Pius X and a classroom building at African Martyrs of Uganda pre-school. Over the past 5 years, 400 homes have been built for the poor.
