“Form 990-ez, part iii, primary exempt purpose to provide canine-assisted support to organizations, as well as kids with special needs, people with disabilities, wounded warriors and veterans with ptsd through unique initiatives utilizing service, therapy and emotional support dogs to foster independence and empowerment. Form 990-ez, part iii, line 28, program service accomplishments our waves of empowerment program empowers and enriches the well-being of veterans and civillians of all abilities and backgrounds, taking them from the battleground to the playground. We held four events where 19 veterans with ptsd were matched with 19 kids with special needs for a day of canine-assisted adaptive surfing, paddling, swimming, playing and therapy. These activities enabled the veterans to continue their life of service, and find new purpose by engaging in community service while mentoring and inspiring future generations. The goal was to connect diverse populations through the challenges they face, bringing them together for their greater good and the greater good of the community. There are several components to this program which include the following: canine-assisted swimming for kids with autism and other special needs was launched in 2017 because one of our service dogs in training displayed an instinct for assisting kids in the water. The objective is to help kids learn about water safety and how to swim, which will ultimately save lives. Drowning, although preventable, is the leading cause of death for children ages one to four, and the third leading cause of death in children 19 and under. However, the danger of drowning is much higher for children with special needs. In fact, drowning is the leading cause of death for kids with autism. We were able to provide free canine-assisted swimming lessons to 21 kids with autism in an effort to reduce the high incidence of drowning. We developed a relationship with the san diego autism society who has a two year back-log of parents wanting their kids to take swim lessons. We are providing an outlet to minimize the wait list. We began communication with camp pendleton marine base in an effort to provide our program to their special needs families at no charge. We afforded support to 14 other civilian and military organizations by providing our dogs to participate and/or interact with their special needs, disabled or veteran participants. We served more than 64 individuals with special needs, disabilities or ptsd through our own program and hundreds more through outreach.”
