Our work is rooted in a diverse online community -- youngwritersproject.org -- an environment defined by respect, quality and innovation where young people learn from their differences and gain skills from peers, mentors and experts.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0COMMUNITY: YWP operates a youth-led online community, https://youngwritersproject.org, where approximately 3,000 teens (mostly) share work, exchange feedback and revise work for publication. Youth members spend an average of 12+ minutes on the site during each visit, a clear indication of the engagement of youths. With kids help, YWP provides daily challenges, selects work for publication and develops special projects. YWP provides mentoring and instruction on the site. These services are free to ensure that no youths are excluded because of economic conditions. Approximately 75% of the members are from Vermont, the rest from all over the U.S. and world from as far away as Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

These workshops are formal learning projects for which students can gain credit from their schools if they want. YWP hires professional writers and media artists for many of these workshops which include short story writing, audio, playwriting, photography, digital storytelling, etc. YWP also runs The Schools Project, providing teachers with customized, private online classrooms as well as technical and content support designed to help teachers incorporate creative and practice writing into their curriculum.
