Gec advocates for sustainable it by helping both manufacturers and large scale purchasers to: 1. Understand the challenges facing sustainable it, 2. Commit to address those challenges, 3. Act to change internal operational, manufacturing, and procurement behaviors.
Major Activities
- Activity 2
- Verification and subscriber support: products on the epeat registry are subject to unannounced audits at any time, and results are publicly reported. This ongoing verification system helps ensure environmental criteria are being met as declared. During 2012 epeat launched a global network of leading international certification organizations to provide verification and subscriber support services. In 2012, epeat conducted verification rounds that involved all manufacturer subscribers.
- Activity 3
- Standards development: epeat leads efforts to develop and update environmental leadership standards through voluntary consensus processes. These processes are open and transparent for all interested stakeholders, include a balance of affected types of stakeholders, and utilize procedures to prevent dominance by any interest. Standards provide a clear and consistent set of environmental performance criteria, addressing multiple life cycle stages and are aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the products. During 2012 epeat led completion of standards for two additional product groups: printers and televisions. Those product groups will be included in the epeat registry in 2013.
