“Founded in 2006 by Robert Clark, Barry Knezek, and Christopher Tucker, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra (LSWO) is an ensemble of fifty-six musicians professional-performing musicians providing exceptional performances which create meaningful community outreach opportunities for the most underserved citizens across North Texas. Unlike any other large music ensemble, our organization was founded with the guiding principle that all active LSWO musicians are talented enough to be principal players and will rotate parts during every concert cycle. This has attracted a group of highly talented and team-minded artists who subscribe to our vision of Music Changing Lives in the community we serve. LSWO Founders envisioned creating a world-class organization committed to deep engagement in developing the next generation of artists and arts patrons. This Life Cycle mentoring model defines our organization - it is who we are, not part of what we do. LSWO is built on three central objectives: make the best possible music, give back to the community, and reach the underserved. LSWO tagline's Music Changing Lives encompasses the vision that music inspires, creates impact, and drives change within communities. To achieve its three objectives, LSWO institutes a three-pronged approach to impact spanning performance, education, and scholarship. Over its first 16 years, LSWO commissioned over a dozen new works for the wind band repertoire in 2020, our most recent recording All for One was a long ballot for a Grammy award. LSWO awarded $57,000 in college scholarships through our Music Changing Lives scholarships, mentored over 900 students from across the state of Texas with our Lone Star Youth Winds ensemble, provided over 13,000 complimentary tickets to artistically underserved Dallas-area residents through Lone Star Kids and delivered instruments and teaching artists to St. Philips for a weekly after-school Percussion Ensemble and-long week Summer Camp since 2009.”
