Mission

To improve the quality of life and provide inspiration and opportunity for people who are blind and visually impaired through employment, outreach, rehabilitation, education and research.

Major Activities

Activity 2
The foundation provides funding for a number of programs and services that benefit blind and low vision individuals. These include: heather's camp, at camp, various art programs, a music program, eyes 4 others and various support group activities for adults, seniors, teens and pre-teens.

WHILE DOING SO, THE ORGANIZATION HAS MAINTAINED A CONTINUOUS SOLICITATION OF FUNDS, RESULTING IN OVER 18 MILLION DOLLARS OF CONTRIBUTIONS. A LARGE PORTION OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS DID COME FROM RELATED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, LOWERING THE PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE. HOWEVER, THESE AMOUNTS ARE INDIRECTLY COMING FROM THE PUBLIC OR GOVERNMENTAL UNITS THROUGH CONTRIBUTIONS AND GROSS RECEIPTS FROM RELATED SERVICES. IF THE ORGANIZATION HAD CARRIED THESE ACTIVITIES ON DIRECTLY, THEY WOULD HAVE EASILY MET THE PUBLIC SUPPORT TEST. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY IS MADE UP OF EIGHT INDEPENDENT MEMBERS WHO ALL REPRESENT THE BROAD INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC. THE ORGANIZATION HAS CONTINUALLY PROVIDED SERVICES DIRECTLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE EDUCATION AND FUNDING OF PROGRAMS WHICH BENEFIT INDIVIDUALS WITH VISION LOSS.
