To observe, analyze and suggest improvements to the methods by which charitable organizations relate to, and interact with, all of their stakeholders, including their employees, their directors, their communities, and the larger community of charitable organizations within which they operate, and to strengthen the professional capacity and practice of individuals and organizations dedicated to charitable or creative endeavors.

Richard Evans, President has a family relationship with Melissa Dibble, Managing Director.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 11B: Form 990 Review Process

EmcArts 990 data is initially assembled by the auditor after the annual financial audit is completed. Then the draft document is reviewed by both the Managing Director and Operations and Program Coordinator. After any revisions are made, if needed, EmcArts staff leaders share the draft with the Board Chair/Treasurer to check for consistency in reporting. Upon these reviews, the signed copies are then promptly submitted, and the full EmcArts board reviews the 990 document at their next Board meeting as part of the formal agenda.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 12C: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts

Board Members receive a copy of said policy annually, and sign off on receipt of it, as do all staff members and subcontractors, upon signing their letters of agreement with the organization. EmcArts explicitly asks that, if any staff or Board member foresees a situation that may give rise to a conflict of interest, they bring it before the Board and/or the Managing Director. Although no actions have been necessary to this point, the Managing Director holds the responsibility for enforcing the policy should any disruptive situations arise.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 15A: Compensation Review & Approval Process - CEO, Top Management

Compensation of the President and Managing Director of EmcArts, as well as the aggregate of the staff compensation line, is reviewed when the board reviews drafts of the upcoming FY budget, and then subsequently votes to approve the proposed budget. Details of raises in pay proposed by the Managing Director for all staff, and by the Board Chair and/or President for the President and Managing Directors pay are discussed at a board meeting (or two) preceding the beginning of the next fiscal year, and formally approved by the Board. The President and the Managing Director have received only the same cost of living increases in pay (3%) as the other staff for the past three years. The President and Managing Director determine all other staff member salaries whether cost of living, or a greater increase due to growth/change in position.

IRS990/Desc0EmcArts delivered services via three types of programs in 2017 adaptive leadershipprograms for individuals (Arts Leaders as Cultural Innovators ALACI), fororganizations (Single Organization Services and New Pathways for the Arts) and for communities to address their selected complex-adaptive challenges within their city (Community Innovation Labs).The ALACI programs for individual leaders served 11 participants, taking the work learned in the seminars and individual coaching out to their 11 different organizations and beyond.The organization's Single Organization Services programs served 5 arts non-profit organizations, conducting adaptive planning processes with working groups from those organizations.The EmcArts New Pathways Programs for the Arts in Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, Canada engaged 3 organizations each in an incubating innovation process to develop and implement prototypes in response to their complex challenges. In Alaska, 6 arts, cultural and native organizations from throughout the state engaged with our New Pathways workshops delivered virtually, four organizations finished out the incubating Innovation process with scaling grant support from EmcArts, and one organization participated in a second round of experimentation. In Houston, 16 organizations participated in a workshop series, 5 organizations engaged in coaching, and 3 organizations began an incubating innovation process. In Charlotte, 10 organizations participated in forums delivered by EmcArts to prepare for a workshop series beginning in 2018.Finally, the Community Innovation Labs Program focused on addressing deep, complex community challenges in four communities, completing programs in Providence, Rhode Island, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Dallas, Texas which culminated with a face-to-face gathering with Lab participants and the larger community to celebrate and share learnings, serving over 165 participants across all three communities. The Community Innovation Lab program also conducted a workshop series in Buffalo, NY for 25 participants, and began a new program in Indianapolis for 22 participants, identifying local staff for the project and beginning to learn concepts about how best to implement the program in the community. Many participants in the Community Innovation Labs were affiliated with organizations with which they shared their learnings from the program, such as local social service non-profits, community foundations, neighborhood associations, religious institutions, local government as well as many arts and cultural non-profit organizations.
