Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Since completing the 'rural area' piloting of the 'Building Bridges of Understanding' program with Boston Children's Hospital that began in June 2022, AWI has been introducing the nationally released resource (BuildingBridgesof Understanding.org) tp increase capacity for early treatment and prevention of Anxiety, Depression and ADHD. As a result, Collier County is the first in the state of Florida where the majority of pediatricians both unibversally screen and begin treatment for all mild and moderate cases. AWI facilitates volunteers nationally through Rotary clubs to physically introduce the content and quality to medical directors through bound sets of the clinician manual and 'Guided Self-Management Toolkits for Families (GSM). AWI facilitates this resource for pediatricians to treat children and adolescents who otherwise would have not had access to care. They receive identification, early intervention, and treatment in the setting of their trusted medical home. The doctors acquire the foundational knowledge needed to safely and effectively manage mild to moderate anxiety, depression, and ADHD through the BBU course. IN ADDITION, PCPs can provide patients and families with information about these conditions and skills that they can learn and practice at home as a first step in treatment. Many of these kids will still need the PCP to prescribe medication, and a therapist to provide advanced treatment. AWI monitored progress on the 2019 grant to William James College Freedman Center for Child and Family Development to be used for the development of a model focusing on adult social emotional competence. This grant furthers AWI's mission to promote prevention of anxiety and depression by developing programs and materials to assist youth, parents, educators and members of the community. Mood Disorders Programs: AWI made available program materials to educators and parents. These activities furthered our exempt purposes of mental health and wellness promotion using a resource listed in the national Best Practices Registry including 1) 'Break Free From Depression' from Boston Children's Hospital (BreakFreeFromDepression.org) for grade 8+ 2) virtual wellness Center from Numedeon (Whyville.net) for grade 4+$0$0
