| PUBLICATIONS - Epiphany is committed to publishing literary work in which form is as valued as content. We look for writing, wherever it may fall on the spectrum from experimental to traditional, that is thoroughly realized not only in its vision but also in its commitment to artistry. We are especially open to writers whose explorations of new territory may not yet have found validation elsewhere. The journal had tremendous success with a recent war issue that was guest edited by the renown poet and veteran Brian Turner. The issue has been used in three different veterans writing workshops: the Joiner Institute for veterans in Boston, New York University Veterans Writing Workshop and the 14th street Y workshop. In addition the issue was used by Elizabeth Irwin High School in a class on war. We have also increased our audience by doing chapbook contests with Best Selling writers Darin Strauss and Kimiko Hahn. | $750 | $52,888 |
| ALL OTHER PROGRAMS - If an epiphany is a moment of sudden revelation, Epiphany, the literary journal, is a crucible of those moments, expressed in fiction, memoir and poetry. Our biannual journal regards the world from all aspects: giving voice to the talented and innovative writers of the 21st Century. We seek outstanding literary work, and connect it with a focused readership. In its ten years of operation, Epiphany has established a reputation as a magazine that supports both emerging and established writers-from near and from afar-whose explorations of new territory may not have found validation elsewhere, wherever they fall on the spectrum from experimental to traditional. | $0 | $5,982 |

| IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt | 0 | Willard Cook, the Founding Editor of Epiphany, a literary journal, has served as the main financial supporter, editor and business manager since its inception in 2005. Editorial excellence has been the magazines' main priority. In order to establish the journal in the literary world, this intense and necessary focus has, unfortunately, led to an admitted neglect of fundraising and outreach. Consequently, Willard Cook resigned as Editor in 2013 with the goal of concentrating on the business side of operations and further research. Willard Cook and the board are developing a strategic plan to raise the long-term fundraising goals from 22 to 33 percent. We currently have applications submitted for grants that would help us achieve the 33 percent goal. We are an established publication with national distribution and a strong editorial reputation with over 2,500 submissions per issue. The magazine has achieved tremendous editorial success over the last few years, including several important prizes, NY Times recognition, inclusion in Best American Short Stories and Best American Non-required Reading, Pushcart Prizes, and a PEN Award for translation. The magazine published three chapters of a memoir that led to its book-form publication, which in turn became one of the five finalists for National Book Award in 2012. We have published over 200 writers and poets, including a Nobel Prize winner, a National Book Award finalists, Pulitzer Prize winners, many best-selling writers, writers in translation, as well as emerging writers who are talented and deserve greater recognition. The organization has a wide base of public support from reading events, social fundraisers, and subscriptions, each of which must be carefully and thoughtfully solicited for money. We have applied for, and received, several translation grants for individual works. We understand, however, that our operations need to be more balanced to include greater outreach to our audience. We believe great interaction with our community of writers and subscribers will lead to success of our long-term fundraising goals, and in turn, will establish Epiphany as an important journal in American Letters. In short, we are a journal that has established editorial excellence, but needs more time to meet the 33% goal. |
