Activity 2

CitizenshipIn 2012, GCIR organized five citizenship briefings, which drew more than 100 funders, and conducted one-on-one outreach and cultivation to more than a dozen funders. GCIR helped raise local foundation dollars to support the New Americans Campaign (NAC), a national project to increase naturalization among eligible immigrants in eight metropolitan regions. GCIR also organized funders and provided initial planning assistance in 2012 to establish the San Francisco Pathways to Citizenship Initiative, a three-year, public-private partnership that supports citizenship services in the City and County of San Francisco. Finally, GCIR provided resources and tailored assistance to funder collaboratives in eight additional sites across the country.

Activity 3

California Immigrant Integration Initiative (CIII) In 2012, GCIR continued to facilitate the work of the California Immigrant Integration Initiative (CIII), a statewide funders table in its sixth year. This year, the table addressed a span of immigration issues, including federal and state policy; legal and direct services infrastructure; and education, economic opportunity, and immigrant integration. We held quarterly meetings and additional programming, distributed key resources to the network of nearly 100 members, centralized information about various funder collaboratives, and provided technical assistance to individual funders. This year, the CIII table was also a crucial venue for funder planning and strategizing on DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) implementation, naturalization, and possible immigration reform.
