Our mission is to transform the lives of children, youth, and young adults in distress. To accomplish this mission we focus on those who directly interact with young people -- parents, caregivers and professionals -- and share with them the transformative power of understanding the Principles of Innate Resilience -- the Three Principles. We teach parents, caregivers, educators, youth-service workers, social workers, juvenile corrections workers, military veteran services coordinators and youth-focused organizations how to engage innate resilience -- the human capacity for learning, creativity, compassion, common sense and well-being -- in the youth they teach and care for, and -- perhaps more importantly -- in themselves, enabling them to serve as wise and loving role models for the children, youth and young adults in their care. The Centers work is built on nearly three decades of successfully applying a Principles-based, innate-health psychology in at-risk communities and schools acro

| CSC ended its National Community Resiliency Project (NCRP) during its 2012-2013 fiscal year. As our 2013-2014 fiscal year began we started building on our experiences and engagement at Thomasboro Academy (a Pre-K through 8th grade public school in Charlotte, NC) that ended in June 2013. We started focusing on impacting children and youth through the schools they attend in other locations across the country. We partnered with Community Institute of Psychotherapy in San Rafael, CA, to create a yearlong program in two schools. CSC trained and mentored two interns in the CIP program; those two interns formed eight groups of middle school students (a total of 51 students) who met for six weeks each to learn about the Principles and how they influence day-to-day life. All students received copies of The Spark Inside by Ami Chen Mills-Naim, CSCs co-founder and first executive director. This program was well received and demonstrated documented benefits to students, interns, and staff at CIP. We contracted with Hartford Public Schools in Hartford, CT, to conduct a two-day retreat for parents of students in that school district. We reinforced that on-site event with personal telephone initial-intake and follow-up calls and a half day review retreat with parents. There were a total of 19 HPS parents and one HPS administrator who participated in this program. All participants received copies of The Spark Inside as well as Ami Chen Mills-Naims newly released book, State of Mind in the Classroom. We contracted with CommonHealth Action to provide a program in Mississippi for 25 parents of school children in Sunflower County. This two-day retreat provided a setting in which the parents could learn new ideas about collaboration and cooperation with school district staff and with assisting agencies. All participants received copies of The Spark Inside as well as Ami Chen Mills-Naims newly released book, State of Mind in the Classroom. These three onsite programs were complemented by ongoing training and educational activities. We provided intensive, experiential training in California and North Carolina as well as online for two people based in Charlottesville, VA, through our six-month Internship program. We also provided a remote (online) intensive training opportunity for one person based in England through our Distance Learning program. We formed our websites Bookstore for the distribution of both of Ami Chen Mills-Naims books. During 2013-14 we distributed 175 copies of these two books. We conducted educational online webinars -- web-based conference calls -- two times each month from July 2013 through June 2014. These live webinars reached approximately 50 different individuals located around the globe. Audio recordings of each webinar were made available for a small fee.CSC reached a national and global audience with its free dissemination of multi-media offerings via several channels: an e-newsletter, a Media Center website, a blogsite, various social media outlets (e.g., Facebook and Twitter) and our first annual Transforming Community from the Inside Out international Telesummit. This free, 10-session, five-day Telesummit had over 600 registrants. Audio recordings were made available after the event for a small fee. The Listen and Watch sections of the content-rich media center website feature talks and interviews with CSC trainers, educators, and community partners in audio and video formats, focused on such subjects as education, bullying, peaceful parenting, and working with youth-at-risk. Some of these videos are available on YouTube. The purpose of CSCs dissemination activities is to provide -- free of charge -- a useful resource to individuals, agencies, community organizations, schools and educators who are interested in improving quality of life and transforming school cultures and neighborhoods through a Principles-based approach. Regular blog postings provide in-depth articles about CSC activities and partner communities. CSCs e-newsletter has over 2,000 active subscribers, and provides links to all the other web-based communication channels, as well as announcements about CSC retreats, web-based conference calls, etc. | $52,487 | - |
