Mission and Program Overview

Mission

ProSalud is a non-profit community based health education program serving several of Houston's medically underserved and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. ProSalud's Community Health Workers provide health information, education, access to health programs and intervention.

ProSalud is a non-profit community based health education program serving several of Houston's medically underserved and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. ProSalud believes that the most effective way to build healthy communities is to empower the people living there to learn to care for their own health and their children's health. To accomplish this ProSalud trains promotoras (certified community health workers) to provide health information, education and intervention in a linguistically correct and culturally relevant way that enables people to make sound, factually-based decisions for themselves and their children. By helping with applications for medical assistance programs and referrals to low cost clinics they help to find a medical home for the care they need.
