Mission

The organization is operated exclusively for charitable purposes that include: to create and administer educational and recreational programs and provide facilities for the educational and recreational use by other community based groups. The corporation was formed under section 202 of the new york not-for-profit corporate formation statute to conduct any activities and perform any and all acts which may be necessary, useful, suitable or proper for the furtherance, accomplishment or attainment of any activities related to 1)the creation and administration of educational and recreational programs for children and adults of the bronx community and 2)the provision of facilities, its community center building, for the educational and recreational use of other community-based groups and organizations.

The organization is operated exclusively for charitable purposes that include: to create and administer educational and recreational programs and provide facilities for the educational and recreational use by other community based groups.

Client Note 1 - MOUNT HOPE COMMUNITY CENTER (MHCCI) 1023 APPLICATION TO IRS FOR 501(c)(3) EXEMPT STATUSON OCTOBER 19, 2006 MOUNT HOPE COMMUNITY CENTER RECEIVED ITS FAVORABLE 501(C)(3) DETERMINATION LETTER,WHICH WAS LATER REVOKED BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE TO FILE TIMELY TAX RETURNS. AS EXPLAINED IN ITS REASONABLE CAUSE LATE FILING ABATEMENT MEMORANDUM AND LETTER, MHCCI ORGANIZATION EXPERIENCED A MAJOR DISRUPTIVE EVENT TO ITS DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS AND LEADERSHIP. On July 24th 2003, the University of the State of New York Education Department issued its consent to the filing of the not-for-profit application of MHCCI. On August 5, 2003, the corporation was organized and defined in subparagraph (a)(5) of section 102 of the New York State Not-For Profit Corporation Law, a type B corporation under section 201 of the NCPL, (DOS ID #293825). The mission of the organization as defined in its original Fed Form 1023 Application was and presently is to provide a center for educational, athletic and recreational programs for the Bronx NY community it serves. The Certificate of Incorporation identifies and lists the charitable and educational purposes of the Corporation. On October 19, 2006, the IRS granted the MHCCI with its 501(c)(3) exemption and all contributions to the organization are deductible under Internal Revenue Code Section 170. The organization was also deemed to be a charity and not a private foundation. The organization is part of the Mount Hope Housing Corporation group of entities, also a not-for profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides numerous community and social services, especially affordable housing to the segment of the economically and income challenged portion of the population residing in the Bronx New York. MHCCI has continued its present mission to provide program services to its target constituency. SOMETIME DURING THE PERIOD 2012-2013, The organization inadvertently lost its 501(c)(3) status because it had not timely filed its annual Federal Form 990 tax returns. During its initial years of operating the community Center, MHCCI's controlling parent organization, Mount Hope Housing Corporation had undergone significant internal leadership changes and organizational restructuring due in part to the allegations of misuse of funds pursuant to an Inspector General inquiry. The circumstances that caused this event are fully described in the letter addressed to the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, dated October 10, 2012, signed by the current CEO, Fritz Jean, Esq. These matters significantly disrupted the internal activities of Mount Hope Housing Corporation and delayed the filing of tax returns and annual reports on behalf of MHCCI. Accordingly, MHCCI's exempt status was jeopardized and by computer default removed from the list of exempt organizations maintained by the IRS.

AS EXPLAINED IN ITS REASONABLE CAUSE LATE FILING ABATEMENT MEMORANDUM AND LETTER, MHCCI ORGANIZATION EXPERIENCED A MAJOR DISRUPTIVE EVENT TO ITS DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS AND LEADERSHIP. On July 24th 2003, the University of the State of New York Education Department issued its consent to the filing of the not-for-profit application of MHCCI. On August 5, 2003, the corporation was organized and defined in subparagraph (a)(5) of section 102 of the New York State Not-For Profit Corporation Law, a type B corporation under section 201 of the NCPL, (DOS ID #293825). The mission of the organization as defined in its original Fed Form 1023 Application was and presently is to provide a center for educational, athletic and recreational programs for the Bronx NY community it serves. The Certificate of Incorporation identifies and lists the charitable and educational purposes of the Corporation. On October 19, 2006, the IRS granted the MHCCI with its 501(c)(3) exemption and all contributions to the organization are deductible under Internal Revenue Code Section 170. The organization was also deemed to be a charity and not a private foundation. The organization is part of the Mount Hope Housing Corporation group of entities, also a not-for profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides numerous community and social services, especially affordable housing to the segment of the economically and income challenged portion of the population residing in the Bronx New York. MHCCI has continued its present mission to provide program services to its target constituency. SOMETIME DURING THE PERIOD 2012-2013, The organization inadvertently lost its 501(c)(3) status because it had not timely filed its annual Federal Form 990 tax returns. During its initial years of operating the community Center, MHCCI's controlling parent organization, Mount Hope Housing Corporation had undergone significant internal leadership changes and organizational restructuring due in part to the allegations of misuse of funds pursuant to an Inspector General inquiry. The circumstances that caused this event are fully described in the letter addressed to the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, dated October 10, 2012, signed by the current CEO, Fritz Jean, Esq. These matters significantly disrupted the internal activities of Mount Hope Housing Corporation and delayed the filing of tax returns and annual reports on behalf of MHCCI. Accordingly, MHCCI's exempt status was jeopardized and by computer default removed from the list of exempt organizations maintained by the IRS.
