Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

There are no committees with authority to act on behalf of the board. Accordingly, this question has been marked no.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

A draft of the form 990 is reviewed in detail by management and then emailed to the board members for comment prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Annually, each director must sign a statement which affirms that they have received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, has read and understands the policy, has agreed to comply with the policy, and understands the organization is charitable and in order to maintain its federal tax exemption it must engage primarily in activities, which accomplish one or more of its tax-exempt purposes. If a conflict were to arise, the member would abstain from voting on the matter.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board of directors performs a compensation review utilizing data from similar organizations in the united states. Written authorization of ceo compensation was provided to the director of finance and administration by an independent director. Ceo compensation decisions are reviewed, approved and documented in the board minutes. The most recent review was in december 2025.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's financial statements are made available to the public on the organization's website. The organization's governing documents and conflict of interest policies are made available to the public upon request.

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C

The board of directors has not formed a finance or audit committee that assumes responsibility for oversight of the audited financial statements. Rather, the audit report is reviewed in detail by management and the organization's outsourced bookkeeper prior to approval and the organization's external audit firm presents the audit report annually to the board of directors at the spring meeting.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The center is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code (the code). However, income from certain activities not directly related to the center's tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. In addition, the center has been determined by the internal revenue service not to be a private foundation within the context of section 509(a) of the code. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by the center and recognize a tax liability if the center has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by various federal and state taxing authorities. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by the center and has concluded that as of december 31, 2025 and 2024 there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the accompanying financial statements. The center has filed its federal income tax returns for periods through december 31, 2024. These income tax returns are generally open to examination by the relevant taxing authorities for a period of three years from the later of the date the return was filed or its due date (including approved extensions). The center is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0IN 2025 THE ORGANIZATION HAD 840 DISTINCT DONORS, HELD FIVE FUNDRAISING EVENTS, AND RECEIVED MORE THAN $1.5 MILLION IN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM DONORS WHO WERE NOT INCLUDED IN EXCESS CONTRIBUTIONS. EACH YEAR CCK ENGAGES IN OUTREACH PROGRAMS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF ITS MISSION AND ACTIVITIES, AND TO DIVERSIFY ITS DONOR BASE.DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE ORGANIZATION EXPERIENCED A TWO-YEAR INTERRUPTION OF SERVICES. THE IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC WAS MORE ACUTELY FELT BY OUR CAMPERS WHO ARE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES OR LIFELONG ILLNESSES. CCK BEGAN TO RESUME ITS CAMPS IN 2022 AND IS CONTINUING TO INCREASE SERVICES TO THESE CHILDREN. IN 2025, THERE WERE 853 CAMPERS WHO WERE ABLE TO ENJOY OUR TRANSFORMATIVE CAMP PROGRAMS AT NO COST TO THE CAMPERS OR THEIR FAMILIES. THIS NUMBER WAS UP FROM 781 CAMPERS IN 2024. AN INCREASE OF MORE THAN NINE PERCENT.IN ADDITION TO THE INCREASE IN SERVICES, CCK WAS THE 2024 RECIPIENT OF THE .ORG IMPACT AWARD FOR DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION. THE ORGANIZATION WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF THE 35 FINALISTS OUT OF 1,700 APPLICANTS FROM MORE THAN 87 COUNTRIES.SINCE CCK DOES NOT CHARGE FOR ITS SERVICES, IT IS ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY RELIANT ON DONATIONS. IN 2025, THE ORGANIZATION HIRED A NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF DEVELOPMENT. THIS INDIVIDUAL OVERSEES DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS, INCLUDING DONOR RELATIONS, FUNDRAISING STRATEGY, AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS. WORKING ALONGSIDE THE CCK TEAM, THIS POSITION FOCUSES ON SUSTAINING AND EXPANDING SUPPORT FOR OUR LIFE-CHANGING PROGRAMS.IN ADDITION, CCK'S CURRENT CEO BEGAN IN AUGUST 2024 AND IS CONTINUING TO DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY LEADERS THROUGH EVENTS SUCH AS THE ANNUAL MISSION MINDED LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON. THIS EVENT BRINGS THE SOUTH-CENTRAL KENTUCKY COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND IS A REMINDER OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE WHEN A COMMUNITY UNITES FOR A CAUSE.IN 2026 CCK WILL HOST 10 WEEK-LONG SUMMER CAMPS AND 13 WEEKEND RETREATS FOR CHILDREN WITH OVER 100 CONDITIONS. HIGHLY QUALIFIED MEDICAL AND CAMP PROFESSIONALS PROVIDE AN EXPERIENCE WHERE EVERY CAMPER PARTICIPATES IN PROGRAMS THAT EMPOWER THEM AND BUILD SELF-ESTEEM WHILE MEETING EVERY CAMPER'S NEEDS, AGAIN ALL AT NO COST.FINALLY, OF THE TOTAL EXCESS CONTRIBUTIONS OF $16 MILLION RECEIVED FROM 2021-2025, APPROXIMATELY $5 MILLION WAS RESTRICTED FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS WHICH ARE INTENDED TO ENHANCE CAMPER EXPERIENCE.
