DescriptionGrantsExpenses
In 2017, HOPE Partnership was focused on Education & Advocacy as well as Property Development. Throughout the year, The Executive Director along with 3-4 Board members made presentations to over 600 individuals. These presentations were made to local faith communities, civic organizations, middle school students, realtors, developers, Town planning and zoning commissions. They combined efforts with Middlesex United Way, The Connection and Middlesex Habitat for Humanity. Also, through collaboration with the Central Connecticut Home Builders and Remodelers Association, HOPE was designated as the charity for a Parade of Homes attended by realtors and developers. HOPE also participated in the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce Chili Fest, during which over 1,000 people were reached. The Property Development Committee currently has options to purchase two properties. HOPE has partnered with a non-profit developer and has hired an architect and engineer to develop a potential 41 units in Old Lyme. After successfully subdividing the parcel through the towns planning commission, the team is conducting traffic and archeological studies to determine the project's feasibility. HOPE has received grant funding to pay for some of these studies and has used its "HOPE Chest" fund for a deposit. Also, the team has applied to the Department of Housing and the Federal Home Loan Bank for funding of the development. The second property will be a total of 15 units renovated from a commercial condominium space to residential. HOPE hired an architect to determine layouts and retrofit of the existing space and an engineer to complete a septic inspection to determine the available capacity. HOPE again utilized their HOPE Chest funds to pay for this work. HOPE is currently applying for pre-development funding from LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation). The team is negotiating terms for four additional properties with the owners. Hope's ED is the co-chair of the Shoreline Basic Needs Task Force Housing Action Team, and is being recognized by the Connecticut Chapter of the American Planning Association as the recipient of the 2017 Community Benefit Award. The ED and Board members have been working on a potential Affordable Housing Ownership Program and a local financial institution has committed $200,000 to help fund a purchase of a single family home that will be deed restricted as affordable.$68,460-
