Activity 2

Haiti - through the haiti connected cities and haiti connected schools programs, inveneo is leading efforts to transform access to broadband and education through icts. Through haiti connected cities, inveneo is delivering a financially sustainable broadband services model to 6 regions and over 20 population centers in rural haiti. This effort includes partnering with local internet service providers, deploying a shared broadband network throughout haiti, training local youth to deliver broadband though a program called bati, building a network operations center and implementing a governance framework with the local isps to transfer ownership of the operation locally. Through the connected schools program, inveneo is working with microsoft, hp, world vision and voila (now digicel) to deliver 40 solar-powered computer labs in rural schools that will be connected to the broadband network.intel haiti digital literacy program: inveneo designed and is leading the intel haiti digital literacy program, which is leveraging the haiti connected schools program by designing and implementing a program that provides digital literacy for job skills to communities in and around 20 of the schools which have computers labs. Inveneo is training 50 teachers and bati to give classes in digital literacy and is also working with the schools to turn these programs into income earning opportunities for the school to enable long term sustainability for the cost of maintaining the labs and internet access. The goal is to have 1000 community members trained by 2013.

Activity 3

Direct services - inveneo provides expert guidance, systems integration and project management for implementing sustainable ict projects for non-governmental and government organizations for project in developing countries, to that these organizations can use ict more effectively to deliver education, healthcare, economic development and relief programs. We employ a solutions based approach, focusing on understanding the goals of the organization and end users so we can design computing, networking and internet access solutions to help achieve their goals. We assess current environment, facilities, power, connectivity, know-how and security. We identify approaches that address the challenges such as unreliable power, tight operating budgets and lack of support resources and make recommendations that include hardware, software and power systems, design and integration, system implementation, training and local support with our partners. In all of our projects we endeavor to work with our local partners loosely to ensure sustainable design.highlights of projects we are currently implementing include:- tanzania for the 21st century - a project led by creative associates and funded by usaid to improve early grade reading skills, where inveneo and its partner will design and implement solar-powered computer labs and other technical solutions to 900+ primary schools in the poorest performing districts in tanzania.- internet now! - a project to design, deliver and connect 100 community centers to provide agricultural information and digital microwork opportunities, where inveneo and our local partner will implement the computer labs and broadband network for connectivity.
