Mission

The specific purpose of this corporation is to establish and support a grassroots network of Asian Pacific Americans and friends that will work for positive, progressive change in the United States of America, for example by increasing awareness of Asian Pacific American issues and Asian Pacific American involvement in local and national politics.

aPROGRAMSWe engaged in four major efforts in 2016: AAPI Media Center at Democratic National Convention Philadelphia Asian American Pacific Islander Community Building Asian American Data Project Asian American Data Project APAP invested in the development of an AAPI voter engagement data tool to help create a more systematic and precise understanding of AAPI populations, including where and why they participate in politics, and how best to communicate to AAPI registered and prospective voters. The database allows users to select the date, state and geographic level (Congressional district, county, etc.) to see voter counts by age and ethnicity using information compiled from researching voter file in targeted states. This project is still in progress, but we will likely not invest any further in 2017. AAPI Media Center at Democratic National Convention APAP partially funded the AAPI Media Center at the Democratic National Convention. The Media Center highlighted the collective prospects of the AAPI community from coast to coast. The Center deployed a network of communications operatives, a rapid-response press and booking operation, and digital media team to connect the wide tapestry of media outlets to campaign surrogates, party officials, and industry executives in real time to tell the story of how the Asian American and Pacific Islander community is rapidly rising and shaping the direction of the country. Philadelphia Asian American Pacific Islander Community Building APAP served as a fiscal sponsor for activities hosted by the Philadelphia Asian American community during the time period of the Democratic National Convention. The main activity was a luncheon offered for free to convention attendees. Get Out the Vote Phone Bank in Las Vegas, Nevada The phone bank made over 25,500 calls, and spoke with approximately 4,089 voters about casting their votes the Presidential and U.S. Senate race in Nevada. We were able to educate voters about using early vote and helped bank early votes, directing them to their closest poll. We learned about a few voter protection issues that we referred to the voter protection hotline and referred ride requests to the other hotline. We found that most AAPI Democratic voters were voting down ballot. We invested close to 1,200 hours into this project including setup.$118,827-
