Mission

Balboa Park Cultural Partnership (BPCP) is a California nonprofit organization through which 30 arts, science, and cultural organizations in Balboa Park, San Diego, collaborate to achieve greater organizational efficiency, innovation, and excellence. BPCP member organizations vary in size and type and include museums, performing arts groups and theatres, collaborative groups, cultural centers, gardens, and the San Diego Zoo.The Balboa Park Cultural Partnership: Drives collaboration between BPCP members, other Balboa Park organizations, and with external partners to leverage the highest collective impact for the visiting public, local residents, and the City and County of San Diego; Ensures a voice for all BPCP members for the broadest participation reflecting the range of cultural organizations in Balboa Park; Generates unified messaging and strategic awareness on behalf of Balboa Park cultural organizations; Advances priorities ever mindful of capacity, audiences, resources, and impac

The form 990 is reviewed by the finance committee and then submitted to the board of directors via email prior to the board meeting. The form 990 is approved by the board of directors at the board meeting. If inquiries or changes are necessary, approval is conducted via email. Email approval is also required for board members not present at the meeting.

Compensation review & approval process - ceo & top management: executive committee the executive committee of the board is authorized to make recommendations to the board regarding executive director compensation. Only those members of the executive committee who are free of conflicts of interest may be involved in the evaluation of the executive director compensation. The executive committee should rely upon annual benchmarks of salary benefits for comparable positions. Comparative data include salary and benefits information published in the california association of museums financial and salary survey. The total compensation of the executive director includes benefits and is consistent with the policies that govern all cultural partnership employees. Annual compensation information for the executive director is reported in the cultural partnership's federal tax return. The executive committee shall make this determination at least once annually. Final board action: only those board members who are free of conflicts of interest may vote on executive director compensation. The board shall review and approve executive director compensation, after a review of comparability data or other evidence that compensation is reasonable and shall substantiate its decision in the minutes.

Parkwide idea inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility - the parkwide idea initiatives were established in 2018 as museums prioritized working collaboratively on improving the inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility of the cultural district organizations. These initiatives led to the formation of the parkwide idea working group, which included representatives from member venues. The working group collaborates on grants, projects and provides peer-to-peer support to further idea work within each representative's organization. The working group also provides learning and networking opportunities for park team members so they can grow together in idea. In addition, the cultural partnership board established board-led idea efforts in 2020. The idea task force is composed of board members who help guide the working group and ensure partners are knowledgeable about efforts throughout the cultural district.
