“During 2019, usgif elected to early adopt accounting standards update (asu) 2016-02 leases (topic 842). Topic 842 establishes the principles that lessees and lessors shall report useful information to users of financial statements about the amount, timing, and uncertainty of cash flows arising from a lease by increasing transparency and comparability by recognizing lease assets and lease liabilities on the statement of financial position. As permitted by asu 2016-02, usgif elected to apply the provisions retrospectively as of the date of adoption, july 1, 2018. There was no impact on the beginning net assets at july 1, 2017, and the provisions of asu 2016-02 were not applied to the year ended june 30, 2018. Also during 2019, usgif adopted asu no. 2016-14 not-for-profit entities (topic 958): presentation of financial statements of not-for-profit entities. This guidance is intended to improve the net asset classification requirements and the information presented in the financial statements and notes about a not-for-profit entitys liquidity, financial performance, and cash flows. The main provisions of this guidance for usgif include enhanced disclosures for liquidity and enhanced disclosures for expenses by both their natural and functional classification. As permitted by asu 2016-14, usgifs detailed functional expense disclosures are presented on a single- year basis during the year of implementation. There was no impact on the change in net assets during the year ended june 30, 2018.”
