“My hope chest provides assistance to woman in need of reconstructive surgery without insurance or funds to cover the cost. One way we do this is to appeal to surgeons and hospitals to provide these services free of charge. Because of their generosity, many women over the years have been able to feel good about themselves. My hope chest does not have to cover these costs - this generosity does not show up on the statement of functional expenses. The organization uses its funds to supplement these services and to cover their administrative costs. Much of the costs are involved in securing the services of these talented physicians and to educate on this gap in insurance coverage. Where the major breast cancer organizations cover education, awareness, prevention and research, my hope chest provides breast reconstruction surgery with financial support to survivors across the country who lost their breasts to cancer and would otherwise fall through the cracks and be unable to restore their bodies. Additionally, we now fund co-pays for insured individuals with high deductibles. During the year we have reached hundreds of women seeking information on reconstruction. The organization's operation costs were supported "primarily" through partnerships with medical facilities, surgeons, and other professional service providers. These "in-kind donations" totaled $367,332 this year.”
