Form 990-EZ Part III, Line 28 - MY HOPE CHEST (MHC) PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS IN NEED OF RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY WITHOUT INSURANCE OR FUNDS TO COVER THEIR SHARE OF THE COST. MHC ALSO ASSISTS WITH SOME MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL BILL PAYMENTS. MHC NAVIGATES APPLICANTS THROUGH ONE OR MORE YEARS OF 3 SURGERIES AND EDUCATES THEM ON THEIR SURGERY OPTIONS. MHCS PROGRAM OPERATES BY APPEALING TO SURGEONS TO PROVIDE THEIR SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE OR AT THE MEDICAID RATE. BECAUSE OF THEIR GENEROSITY, MANY WOMEN HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FEEL WHOLE AGAIN AND POSITIVE ABOUT THEMSELVES. Form 990-EZ Part III, Line 28 continued -MY HOPE CHEST WAS THE 1ST CHARITY IN AMERICA TO PROVIDE FREE BREAST RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY FOR UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS. WE HAVE BEEN CHANGING LIVES NOW FOR 20 YEARS. OUR LARGEST REFERRALS COME FROM THE BIGGEST PINK RIBBON ORGANIZATIONS-SUSAN G KOMAN AND AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY. THEY DO NOT DONATE EVEN $1 TO OUR PROGRAM. DUE TO THE 2020-21 PANDEMIC AND THEN OUR STRUGGLING ECONOMY, COMPANIES AND INDIVIDUALS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME CHARITABLE POCKETBOOK FOR DONATIONS, GRANTS, OR SPONSORSHIPS. THEIR DONATIONS ARE FOCUSED ON FOOD, CLOTHING, AND SHELTER CHARITIES, RIGHTFULLY SO. THAT DOES NOT ELIMINATE OUR MISSION FOR WOMEN. THESE ISSUES, UNFORTUNATELY, HAVE GREATLY CRIPPLED OUR HUMAN AND FINANCIAL RESOURSES. Form 990-EZ Part III, Line 28 continued - IN 2022 WE REBRANDED AND HAVE BEEN IN A RESTRUCTURE. WE HELD ONE FUNDRAISER IN 2023 THAT RAISED A SMALL AMOUNT. WE ARE STAYING AFLOAT WITH INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS AND LOYAL CORPORATE SPONSORS LIKE HOOTERS IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA. WE ALWAYS HAVE A NATIONWIDE WAITLIST. WE ARE BLESSED TO CONTINUE OUR WORK WITH VOLUNTEERISM HELPING OUR OPERATIONAL COSTS, SUCH AS ACCOUNTING, GRAPHICS, AND WEBSITE. MHCS CEO AND FOUNDER HAS DEFERRED HER PAY AND VOLUNTEERS HER TIME TO CONTINUE THE MISSION AND FACILITATE SURGERIES. WE ARE CONFIDENT THE FUTURE WILL BE BRIGHT AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE LIFE CHANGING SURGERIES AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO CONTINUE OUR MISSION FOR ANOTHER 20 YEARS! Form 990-EZ Part III, Line 28 continued - THANKS TO IN-KIND DONATIONS OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES FOR SURGERIES TOTALING $78,690 FOR FYE ENDING 6/30/2024, THE ORGANIZATION USES SOME OF OUR FUNDS TO SUPPLEMENT ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS. MUCH OF THE COSTS INVOLVE THE ARDUOUS PROCESS OF SECURING THE SERVICES OF TALENTED PHYSICIANS AND THEIR FACILITIES AND TO EDUCATE ALL, WITHIN AND BEYOND THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY, ABOUT THE CHALLENGE FOR SURVIVORS TO ATTAIN THIS SURGERY OR PAY THEIR BILLS DURING THE 12 TO 18 MONTH PROCESS. IN-KIND DONATIONS INCLUDE 1,000 VOLUNTEER HOURS VALUED AT $33,490, $4,000 FOR ACCOUNTING SERVICES, $40,000 FOR PAYROLL DEFERMENT, AND $1,200 FOR STORAGE RENTAL. Form 990-EZ Part III, Line 28 continued - WITH THE LIMITED OPTIONS FOR INCOME, WE STILL HELPED PROVIDE SURGERIES, BILL PAY ASSISTANCE, EDUCATION FOR SURGERY OPTIONS, AND NAVIGATION FOR ASSISTANCE TO OVER 250 WOMEN IN FISCAL 2023. WHERE MAJOR BREAST CANCER ORGANIZATIONS COVER EDUCATION, AWARENESS, PREVENTION AND RESEARCH, MY HOPE CHESTS UNIQUE SERVICE PICKS UP WHERE THEIRS LEAVE OFF, PROVIDING BREAST RECONSTRUCTION SURGERY, THE FINAL STEP IN TREATMENT.

We were birthed from dust and have worked diligently changing lives of breast cancer survivors across America with a small team with big hearts! We were not an arm of an existing or larger organization having complex employee policies in place. We worked hard every year to sustain and grow but did not have Employee Benefits packages in place due to our size and grassroots income. In 2015, we started an Employee Benefit Savings account with the goal to one day set up our 401K program. Our full-time salaried employees generously deferred much of their benefits to keep the charity going, while at the same time working at a reduced salary so My Hope Chest could hire additional staff to best serve our mission. Employees are truly passionate and dedicated to our mission. My Hope Chest is committed to paying these benefits to the people that paid it forward. We will pay benefits due when funds are available, over time, so as not to jeopardize the organizations stability and financial future. This is why the liability is reflected on the Part II balance sheet and transparent in our accounting.
