Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Stop hunger now is an international hunger relief organization driven by a vision of a world without hunger. Its mission is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and other aid to the world's most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. One way stop hunger now accomplishes the mission is through popular community-supported meal packaging programs. The dehydrated, high-protein and highly nutritious meals, at times accompanied by donated in-kind aid such as medicine, medical supplies, equipment, clothing, blankets, soap and vitamins were distributed to thousands of hungry, vulnerable people and disaster victims in 30 countries in 2013. Stop hunger meals and in-kind aid are used primarily to support transformational education and vocational programs in developing countries around the world.

Stop hunger now is a non-profit international hunger relief organization that is driven by a vision of a world without hunger and a mission to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-changing aid to the world's most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. The organization accomplishes its mission by involving volunteers around the world through its meal packaging program, procuring and donating in-kind aid that is distributed to those in need, and making cash grants to recipient organizations that support sustainable community development and builds capacity among partner organizations.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. In addition, the organization qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a). The organization adopted the provisions of asc 740-10-05 on january 1, 2009. Asc 740-10-05 prescribes a comprehensive model for how companies should recognize, measure, present, and disclose in their financial statements uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return. Under asc 740-10-05, tax positions must initially be recognized in the financial statements when it is more likely than not the position will be sustained upon examination by the tax authorities. Such tax positions must initially and subsequently be measured as the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized upon ultimate settlement with the tax authority assuming full knowledge of the position and relevant facts. The organization did not have any unrecognized tax benefits and there was no effect on our financial condition or results of operations as a result of adopting asc 740-10-05. The organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The tax years from 2011 through 2014, are subject to examination by the internal revenue service. The organization is currently not under any federal or state audits. Interest and penalties are zero and the organization's policy is to expense interest and penalties, if any, to income tax expense as incurred. The organization does not expect any material changes in unrecognized tax benefits as of december 31, 2015 and 2014.

IRS990/Desc0STOP HUNGER NOW IDENTIFIES HIGHLY EFFECTIVE AND ACCOUNTABLE LOCAL PARTNERS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, WORKS WITH THESE PARTNERS TO UNDERSTAND THEIR VISION FOR CREATING SUSTAINABLE CHANGE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, AND PROCURES RESOURCES ON THEIR BEHALF THAT ENABLE THEM TO BUILD CAPACITY AND MEET THE NEEDS OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. IN 2015, STOP HUNGER NOW SHIPPED MORE THAN $14.5 MILLION IN DONATED GOODS INCLUDING MEDICINES AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES, CLOTHING, SHOES, SOAP AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES.IN GANTA, LIBERIA, 450,000 CITIZENS RELY ON JUST ONE HOSPITAL. SINCE 2012, STOP HUNGER NOW HAS COLLABORATED WITH THE NORTH CAROLINA UNITED METHODIST CONFERENCE TO SUPPORT THE GANTA UNITED METHODIST HOSPITAL THROUGH ANNUAL SHIPMENTS OF CRITICAL MEDICAL SUPPLIES. THESE SUPPLIES, ALONG WITH MEDICAL GLOVES, FACE MASKS AND PERSONAL-PROTECTION EQUIPMENT, WERE OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE DURING THE RECENT EBOLA OUTBREAKS.IN THE WAKE OF SEVERE FLOODING IN THE IMPOVERISHED CITY OF CHENNAI, INDIA, IN NOVEMBER 2015, STOP HUNGER NOW DEPLOYED 389,000 MEALS TO OVER 5,000 FAMILIES IN AFFECTED DISTRICTS. WE ALSO PROVIDED HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO NEARLY 4,000 CITIZENS IN COLLABORATION WITH THE KRAFT HEINZ INDIA MOBILE HEALTH UNIT (MHU), OVERSAW 8 TONS OF SUPPLIES -- FROM CLOTHING TO COOKING VESSELS -- COLLECTED AND DISSEMINATED BY VOLUNTEERS IN MUMBAI, PROVIDED 10 BOXES OF SOAP AND HYGIENE KITS TO 540 FAMILIES IN 5 VILLAGES AND SUPPLIED 10,000 PACKETS OF NUTRITION DRINKS TO PATIENTS WITH SUPPORT FROM THE HOPE FOUNDATION.IN THE REMOTE MOUNTAIN VILLAGE OF PALA, GUATEMALA, A COMMUNITY OF FARMERS TRAVELS UP DIRT ROADS TO TEND TO FIVE CONCRETE TANKS OF TILAPIA FISH. AS THEY FEED THE FISH, WASH THE TANKS AND CHECK THE WATER TEMPERATURE, THEIR SIGHTS ARE SET ON MORE THAN GROWING FISH: THEY ARE WORKING TOWARD A FUTURE SOURCE OF PROTEIN AND INCOME. THESE FARMERS ARE PART OF A PILOT PROJECT WITH GUATEMALA VILLAGE PARTNERS AND STOP HUNGER NOW, WHICH HAS SUPPORTED THIS COMMUNITY SINCE 2010.
